About this deal

The train to collect him arrives at Weirwold’s Platform 1 travelling southbound, 7325 having been turned to face chimney first again. Eventually, Stelton and some social workers come to Tom's house with the news that Willie's mother has died by suicide.

In the film's final scene, Willie rides the bicycle down the long hill and stops just in front of an impressed Tom, whom he addresses as "Dad" for the first time. Instead, 7325's number plates were temporarily transferred to GCR Great Central Railway resident 'Modified Hall' 6990 Witherslack Hall, with a number of other differences being visible to the experienced eye! When the Second World War is declared, Tom finds that his quiet life in the village of Little Weirwold is set to change when nine-year-old Willie Beech (Nick Robinson) is evacuated from London and billeted on him.Willie is a quiet sad child with a deprived and disturbing past, but he slowly begins to flourish under the care of 'Mister Tom' and enjoys an idyllic village life. Have read the story many times and recently shared the book with my 9 year old and I wanted him to see the film too.

She finally pummels him and eventually locks him in the cupboard under the stairs, accusing him of blasphemy after he tells her that Jesus was a Jew. It is a shame that with all the other detail and thought that went into the making of it, no one thought to remove or disguise the UHF television aerials on their rooves ! Set in a small English town at the start of WWII, Goodnight Mister Tom is based on Michelle Magorian's novel about a cantankerous WWI veteran named Tom Oakley (John Thaw), who, against his will, is paired with a London orphan named Willie Beech.

Despite initial difficulties combined with his reluctance to care for Willie, Tom later takes pity on Willie after learning about his abusive upbringing by discovering the leather belt his mother used to beat him, which he throws into the garden, and does his best to create a suitable home for Willie, such as providing him with new clothes and helping to educate him.The film is set in the early years of the 2nd World War, and is full of charm, nostalgia and a heart warming throw back to the days before mobile phones, satellite TV and countless other forms of media and communication.
