Ich habe mitraten und rätseln können und musste meine Ideen immer wieder überdenken. Genau das mag ich an Thrillern und Krimis besonders gerne!

I do not intend to read anymore of the series. The was very little in the book that I found to be redeeming and I simply do not care about the characters and do not care what will happen to them. Ten years ago Jonah Colley takes his son Theo to the park where he goes missing, all Jonah can find is Theo’s bobble hat. Firearms police officer Jonah blames himself for his son’s disappearance.

Gavin and Jonah had been best friends since school and joined the Met doing their training together. The Lost is an intriguing if not entirely satisfying introduction, but it’s sparked enough interest to make me want to know more about Jonah Colley, which bodes well for the future. This one if the best thrillers I have read in a long time. I personally think that this thriller should be made into a film. This isn’t one for the faint of heart. The chemistry of death contains quite the catalogue of.. well, death chemistry, ergo — maggots and gasses and all the yummy decomposition breakdown that comes for an dove into forensic pathology.

It has taken me a while to get around to reviewing this one. The main reason is that I have been trying to think of something interesting to say about my experience. Problem is, there is not much interesting content to discuss. Ich freute mich auf einen neuen Krimi mit Hunter, der mir aus früheren Bänden sympathisch und interessant in Erinnerung war. Das bleibt auch bei diesem Buch so, jedoch wird es leider von den permanenten Querelen zwischen Haupt- und Nebencharakteren massiv überschattet - ein forensischer Taphonom verärgert Hunter, Hunter verärgert seine Auftraggeber bei der Polizei, ein frustrierter Bauunternehmer verärgert alle. Als wäre das noch nicht genug, läßt sich auch Hunter von all dem Ärger ins Boxhorn jagen und an sich selbst zweifeln. Angesichts seiner Erfahrung und seines Renommees ist das aber nur sehr bedingt plausibel und hat mich zumindest doch sehr gestört. Die Handlung konnte mich mehrfach überraschen und besonders die Auflösung des Mörders hätte ich nicht erwartet. Zumeist war die Geschichte spannend mit mehreren Plottwists. Manchmal hatte das Buch ein paar langatmige Szenen, die aber besonders für mich als Thriller-Einsteiger ganz angenehm zu lesen bzw. hören waren.I also found the characters of the detectives investigating the case somewhat irritating, although I suspect that the longer the series continues, the more we’ll get to know about them and their reasons for being so objectionable, particularly the disfigured and very, very angry DI Fletcher. Die Verlorenen’ ist der Auftakt einer neuen Reihe des Autors. Mit der ‘David Hunter’ Reihe konnte er mich bereits sehr begeistern, daher war für mich glasklar, dass ich auch der neuen Reihe eine Chance gebe. Und ich habe es nicht bereut. Die Charaktere waren für mich undurchschaubar. Ich mochte Jonah als Protagonist sehr gerne, aber bin der Meinung, dass er sich ziemlich oft dämlich angestellt hat. Ich finde, es ist dem Autor gelungen, dass Jonah mehrfach an seine Grenzen gerät, aber hin und wieder wirkte er mehr als nur hilflos. Im Prinzip hat Jonah nichts alleine auf die Reihe bekommen und ordentlich in seinem Job versagt. Besonders unterhaltsam waren für mich die Dialoge zwischen Jonah und dem Polizisten. Beide harmonierten auf humorvolle Weise miteinander. Ich kann mir jedoch vorstellen, dass diese Dialoge manchen Lesern nicht gefallen könnte. The Lost is a crafted work with hooks and cliffhangers. A tense, dark and compulsive read, it’s well-paced with an exciting, unexpected and dramatic conclusion. The story revolves around trying to identify who these people are and how they died. Sei es drum, dieser Umstand machte ihn mir irgendwie sympathischer. Dennoch erscheint es mir recht unrealistisch. This was both an intriguing and exciting read where the past intertwines with the present. In the ten years since Theo’s disappearance the people closest to Jonah have moved on with their lives however whilst trying to solve the mystery that he has found himself embroiled in he has to make some emotional reconnections. He made mistakes but it’s easy to feel sympathetic towards him and I did think he unfairly took all the blame on himself that day. Wie in den vorherigen Teilen gibt es auch diesmal viele forensische Untersuchungen und Details, die ausgiebig thematisiert werden, was man mögen muss und bei mir genau den richtigen Nerv traf.
