Good quality wooden furniture, especially older items that feature french polish finishes, need to be cared with by a product that will enhance the appearance, without doing damage to the surfaces. Undoubtedly, the presence of Silicone and also water, within cheaper furniture polishes, can be a serious hazard to nice old hardwood furniture made of Mahogany, Teak, Rosewood etc. Non Silicone Wood Silk furniture polish does not contain silicones or water which can cause water spotting. Wood Silk is a blend of the the purest Beeswax and nutrients oils. It superbly highlights the original grain/colour of wood and replaces the natural oils lost by direct heat and central heating. It's the natural way to cane for your furniture. The problem is that blooming can arise, where the surface finish goes pale and seems to de-laminate from the underlying wood. This means that penny pinching on the choice of furniture polish product, can have the effect of simply ruining the furniture and in ways that cannot really be repaired. Re-varnishing or re-french polishing is clearly a disaster scenario and if antique pieces are implicated, hundreds of poun ds of damage can be done, just in an attempt to spruce up the furniture. We also test each for its ease of removing greasy fingerprints, crayon marks and water rings. Do not use on unsealed wooden surfaces (including scratches,particularly on lighter coloured furniture). We note if it leaves behind film, streaks or unpolished dry spots, and we assess the general uniformity of the application. We apply each furniture polish to a freshly cleaned wood panel and use a gloss meter to measure the percentage of glossiness before and after application. We test to see if it resists smears and protects against water spots. We revisit the panel after 24 hours to see if it maintains its attractive appearance with no hazy film, dry spots or distortion to the shine. Directions 1. Shake well. 2. Hold container as upright as possible 6 inches from surface to be polished. Spray sparingly and evenly. 3. Buff immediately with a soft clean cloth. 4. When the finish is unknown or old, first test on an inconspicuous area. 5. For small or hard to get at areas, spray on cloth and polish.
