In my tests with the earlier P520 I didn’t gain any advantage over Normal mode when shooting the test scene in Active mode, but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t yield better result in situations like those mentioned in the manual. From searching the web the last 2 days, it is not just the P520 which has the problem; other Nikon P series cameras seem to suffer from it too. At the moment all I have is a new/fresh battery, with correct charger,and which I can charge the battery through my laptop. Manual exposure is well catered for, though, with shutter speed assigned to the command dial and aperture on the rear wheel. It’s easy to move the autofocus point using the navigation pad. We also appreciate being able to trigger autofocus momentarily in manual focus mode – useful for focusing once and then avoiding unnecessary refocus between shots.
