About this deal

First, the band plays their asses off with exemplary skill and technique. There's a bit of tempo adrenaline runaway, but it's not a deal breaker. Bruce is in top form, as usual. He never lets his audience down. The Notorious B.I.G.'s 1997 album 'Life After Death' is getting reissued as an eight-LP box set for its 25th anniversary. The collaboration among the Estate of Christopher Wallace, Bad Boy Records, and Atlantic is part of a campaign to honour the late icon during what would've been his 50th birthday year, according to Complex. 'The Sky’s the Limit: A Year Celebrating the Legacy of the Notorious B.I.G.' will feature 4K upgrades of Biggie's music video catalogue, which will be released on YouTube, numerous online events, plus the teaser of "additional surprises". It will culminate in the release of a 'super deluxe' version of 'Life After Death,' Biggie's final studio album, originally released 16 days after his death in 1997. Double albums tend to be overblown, self-indulgent cash grabs, but Life After Death warranted the approach. Beginning with the 1994 Quad Studios shooting of Tupac Shakur in New York City, the Notorious B.I.G—along with Combs, Shakur, and Suge Knight—was at the center of a multifaceted rivalry. It was a struggle between N.Y.'s Bad Boy and L.A.'s Death Row records that surpassed label affiliation to become about coastal loyalty, arguments about commercialism vs. art that spread from the music industry to the public, whispers of motives and allegiances ran from the streets to the urban criminal underworld. Big easily had more than one album's worth of material to talk about.

The Life After Death 25th Anniversary Super Deluxe Boxed Set consists of 8-LPs and a commemorative booklet featuring rare photos from the album cover shoot, liner notes by Sheldon Pearce, and exclusive reflections from members of the team who worked on the original album release. In addition to the original album, it includes the “Hypnotize” 12”, “Mo Money Mo Problems” 12”, “Sky’s The Limit” 12”, and “Nasty Boy” 12”. Selected items are only available for delivery via the Royal Mail 48® service and other items are available for delivery using this service for a charge. I had the pleasure of seeing Maiden in the '80s, on Beast, Piece, and this one, 84/85. This two disc record realistically captures the experience of the World Slavery Tour, and sounds even better than I remember them.

I ran out and bought the record in '85, the week it was released, as if hoping to re-live the concert I had recently seen. I always enjoyed listening to it, however, these days with much better audio equipment, I can really appreciate the production nuances. The sound is marvelous. Making a live record is tough, and even tougher with two distorted guitars competing for the same audio space. Murray and Smith are well defined in the soundstage. Harris pokes out at all the right times, but his ubiquitous gallop is always there. Drums are beautifully mixed here, a real treat. For those who might remember, Notorious B.I.G.’s Ready To Die 2013 Record Store Day release was highlighted by sleek white vinyl records that matched the color of Biggie’s signature suit. But what the Estate of Christopher Wallace, Rhino Records, Bad Boy, and Atlantic have in store for the Life After Death 25th Anniversary Super Deluxe release will blow it out of the water. The audience level is quite high in the mix, but serves to convey the energy of a live show. Of course I would like to hear less, but then how would you know it's live?
