About this deal

An energon cube is also included so that you can have Soundwave shoot energon out of his chest like he did in the show. This also has a cutout originally, but I think it looks alright in clear too. Soundwave was on a mission with Galvatron to steal oil from Oil Valley when they spotted Hot Rod nearby. When they gave chase, Soundwave detected that more Autobots, the Dinobots to be precise, were in the area. The Decepticon fliers went ahead to ambush the heroic robots. When Soundwave and the other ground-bound Decepticons caught up to them, Soundwave managed to land a shot on Swoop. The Decepticons were soon driven away when further Autobot reinforcements arrived on the battlefield. Battle at Oil Valley Soundwave's instruction sheet contains an error where it says that his base mode is compatible with other Titans Return toys' base modes: it has Powermaster Optimus Prime labeled as "Autobot Blaster". Some toys have stress marks on the hatch that opens to hide his head in base and stereo mode even before opening the box. Both 'bots come with the same accessories: two "thruster guns," two piledrivers, and a piece that the piledrivers plug into. The guns can be stored inside the piledrivers, and whole thing can be worn as a

Soundwave wasn't properly introduced in this commercial, only referred to as the "Decepticons' communications officer." This early animation featured a Soundwave model colored in lavender, versus the dark blue used later. Soundwave commands an ever-growing legion of cassette troops to carry out tasks big and small. Stored within his signature chest compartment and called forth on Soundwave's whim with a push of a button, these miniature menaces are most commonly employed as spies for either the Decepticon cause or Soundwave's personal objectives, but are just as effective as warriors, and are entirely devoted to their master. They are also not Soundwave's only diminutive partners: as an Action Master, he is partnered with Wingthing. Soundwave also comes with an extra panel that clips onto his chest. This was more for the Japanese release, which included some extra cutouts that let you put schematics and information in Soundwave's chest. None are included with the set but scans are available online if you look around. During one of Hasbro's designer panels at BotCon 2008, an audience member questioned the feasibility of releasing this figure in the 2008 Universe toy line, but without the expensive MP3 player electronics. Bizarrely, Hasbro design director Aaron Archer gave a seemingly prepared statement that did not answer the question at all, and instead stated that Hasbro were unlikely to release Music Label Soundwave in their markets due to the obscurity of the MiniSD memory card format. (For what it's worth, Hasbro's Greg Lombardo had given an actual answer to the same question at BotCon 2007, when he stated that ML Soundwave's innards are so devoted to electronics that removing them might adversely impact the leftover toy's appearance and stability.)The eighth release in the Collaborative line, "Energia Buzzsaw" is a redeco of his original The Transformers toy... wait, what? In addition to the main Masterpiece line, there are four sublines based on both other franchises and other portions of the Transformers franchise: The head under the helmet has no mouth whatsoever, which is somehow creepier than the speaker-mouths of the prior Kreons. Out of the eight cubes, only two have candy in them. Most of the art on the cube is taken from Dreamwave art by Superstar Funana, with the exception of two parts that feature art by Don Figueroa.

Golden Lagoon Soundwave is a redeco of the Titans Return Leader Class figure, now in a gold and gold-chromed color scheme, based on his appearance in the episode of the name. Unlike in said episode, his tape door remains clear, rather than gold opaque. He retains his previous base mode and comes with a removable Headmaster for his head.

Known designers: Bill Rawley (Hasbro), Alex Androski (deco artist), Marcelo Matere (concept artist) Soundwave has all the articulation you would ever need. He has a waist swivel, fully jointed hips, knees, ankle tilts, double jointed elbows, and essentially two should joints as well. Considering all that Soundwave really needs to do is stand there and look cool, this is more than enough articulation to please most fans.

This toy also appeared in Generations Selects Special Comic as a member of the Golden Age, who may or may not be named "Soundwave".

Secretly, Soundwave was always a little surprised that his Barry White impression had taken him to the top ranks of the Decepticons. In one possible scenario that followed, the Autobots returned to storm the lab shortly after. Soundwave was one of the few Decepticons too afraid of Galvatron's wrath to desert his post, and attempted to fend off the Autobot aggressors. Finding himself on the losing side, Soundwave grabbed the Brain Drain device, and attempted to flee with it. This version of Buzzsaw, Spy was released as part of the general retail version of the Transformers Trading Card Game Blaster vs. Soundwave box set. Soundwave is exclusive to Toys"R"Us stores. He was released earlier (with fellow Masterpiece Acid Storm) in limited numbers at San Diego Comic Con 2013. Maybe a slightly stylised version, crossed between G1 and anime, in the similar vein to Maketoys reMaster series.
