I just wanted to say that I wasn’t quite convinced at first about the Bike Cave. I bought one and put it up in my garden. It’s amazingly strong. It has put up with being buried in snow drifts, battered by winds and storms (we live in the highest village in Kent)and I now have to say that I am impressed. So impressed that I have bought another one. My bike cave has also been on holiday with us to the South of France and been put up an down for two weeks with no problems at all. In some older models, you may find an additional pair of vertical fibreglass poles. These are optional and designed to fit vertically under the two main arched poles to afford additional strength and support in the event of snow. The front and rear sections have a zip running all the way round, so you can unzip as much or as little as you need. You’ll notice that we’ve also now incorporated an additional PE “second skin” roof hood, which fits over the top of the main cover and hooks onto the eyelets along the arch-shaped sides. A draw-string nylon guy line allows it to be tightened and optionally can be pegged down for additional stability in high winds. This new flysheet or “roof hood” not only makes the Bike Cave more waterproof but also extends the lifetime of the product.

Reading through the instructions it becomes apparent that if you’ve ever erected a tent then setting up the Bike Cave will be a breeze, and if you haven’t fear not as it’s a straightforward process. I’m a big fan of bike caves and this is my third one. They stand up really well to high winds and it’s nice and easy to get the bikes in and out. Plus they fit neatly against the fence in my small garden and aren’t intrusive. However I’ve left off a star because I’m slightly disappointed by the hood. I paid extra for the hooded model (there are cheaper versions on the market) as I thought it would last a lot longer but in reality the actual hood didn’t last very long at all and had a big hole in the top within a few months. I know it is made to be replaceable but didn’t think I’d have to do it quite that often! There is a limit to the weight that the fibreglass rods can withstand and the product really should not be used in snow. It is certainly not designed to withstand heavy snowfall. If you do use in snow then you must clear the snow off regularly to prevent snow build-up. Damage caused to the product as a result of use in snow will not be covered by warranty. We’ve changed the shape of the door panel to make zipping and unzipping easier without snagging.
