About this deal

The next figure shows how well the display is able to reproduce really dark parts of an image, which is essential when watching movies or playing games in low ambient light. Its display covers 98% of the sRGB/ITU-R BT.709 (web/HDTV standard) in CIE1976 (it is able to represent almost all of the colors found on the Web). This profile is aimed at designers who work with colors professionally, and for games and movies as well. Design and Gaming takes display panels to their limits, making them as accurate as possible in the sRGB IEC61966-2-1 standard for Web and HDTV, at white point D65. There are four function buttons and a Power switch located on the right side of the bottom edge of the U2717D's cabinet. Picture settings are fairly basic and include eight picture presets (Standard, Multimedia, Movie, Game, Paper, Color Temperature, sRGB, and Custom), as well as Brightness, Contrast, Sharpness, and two Gamma settings (PC or Mac). You don't get the advanced 6-Axis-Hue and -Saturation color controls that you get with the BenQ SW2700PT and the Acer Predator XB271HU , and there are no Blue Light settings on this model. Health-Guard eliminates the harmful Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and reduces the negative Blue Light which affects our eyes and body. Since it’s custom tailored for every panel, it manages to keep the colors perceptually accurate. Health-Guard simulates paper so the pressure on the eyes is greatly reduced.

We test the reaction time of the pixels with the usual “Gray-to-Gray” method from 50% White to 80% White and vice versa between 10% and 90% of the amplitude. And it is not just marketing – the U2717D features a 60Hz 1440p panel with extremely thin bezels all around the display. Another selling point of the laptop is its supposed 99% of sRGB coverage and average dE of below 2.0, which should be mouthwatering for Web designers. Dell UltraSharp U2717D is equipped with a 60Hz Full HD panel. Its diagonal is 27″ (68.58 cm), and the resolution 2560 x 1440 pixels. The screen ratio is 16:9, and we are looking at a pixel density of – 109 ppi, and a pitch of 0.23 х 0.23 mm. The screen turns into Retina when viewed at distance equal to or greater than 80cm (31.5″) (from this distance one’s eye stops differentiating the separate pixels). What did we learn? One thing we know for sure, this monitor is very comfortable to use for a lot of different scenarios. And the main reason for that (design-wise) is the stand. As it offers all kinds of movements – swivel, height adjustment, tilt, pivot, handshaking, and brofisting. While the last two will be best suited for the streets, the monitor itself is a decent addition to your home (or office). As we mentioned the OSD menu gives you a choice from “Standard”, “Multimedia”, “Movie”, “Game”, “Paper”, “Color Temperature”, “sRGB” and “Custom Color”.

Still, we’ve included other color spaces like the famous DCI-P3 standard used by movie studios, as well as the digital UHD Rec.2020 standard. Rec.2020, however, is still a thing of the future and it’s difficult for today’s displays to cover that well. We’ve also included the so-called Michael Pointer gamut, or Pointer’s gamut, which represents the colors that naturally occur around us every day. We measured a maximum brightness of 355 nits in the middle of the screen and 332 nits as an average for the whole area, with a maximum deviation of 8%.

Power usage was a bit less than other 27-inch monitors I've tested. It measured 27 watts during testing while set to the Standard picture preset, compared with the Acer Predator Z271's 28 watts and the Viewsonic XG2700-4K's 35 watts. However, the Acer Z271's ECO power-saving mode reduced consumption to 21 watts, and the Viewsonic XG2700-4K used only 18 watts when set to its Conserve ECO mode. The U2717D doesn't offer an ECO power-saving mode. The monitor comes with a factory calibration report to assure you that it's within tolerance to be considered color-accurate, in a standard perceptible-difference unit called "Delta-E." In sRGB, it's very accurate; not so much in the default Standard mode, though. maximum brightness runs about 320 nits, and typical contrast is about 700:1; in other words, it delivers fine general-purpose performance. It's also got an antiglare coating that works pretty well. Office Work should be used mostly by users who spend most of the time looking at pieces of text, tables or just surfing. This profile aims to deliver better distinctness and clarity by keeping a flat gamma curve (2.20), native color temperature and perceptually accurate colors. In terms of weight, the panel, itself, tops the scales at 4.5 kg (if you are going to use it with a VESA mount), while the combined weight,While not designed for gaming, the U2717D's 5-millisecond pixel response did an admirable job of handing fast action in my Crysis 3 (PC) and Grand Theft Auto V ( Sony PlayStation 4 ) tests, but there was minimal screen tearing in the Crysis 3 tests. A 37-millisecond input lag (the time it takes for the monitor to react to a controller command), which I measured using a Leo Bodnar Video Signal Lag Tester , is at the high end of acceptable lag; our fastest monitors, the BenQ XL2430T and the SW2700PT, measured 9.5 milliseconds. On the downside sits the uneven uniformity in the bottom part of the display on our unit. This disqualifies the U2717D for web design use, at least in the eyes of perfectionists. However, all of the aforementioned will provide a great experience for home and office usage, watching videos and playing games to some extent, although, the reaction times won’t impress hardcore gamers.

While the swivel and the tilt are the same as the aforementioned monitor – 45-degrees for the former, and from -5-degrees to 21-degrees on the latter, here the pivot movement doesn’t require any additional thought process. Just raise the display to its maximum position and then turn it – it does not interfere with the stand, nor the ground, since there is enough headroom from the ground – 184.6 mm.
