About this deal

The longer the blade, the easier you’ll find it and the less time it will take you to trim a lengthy hedge, and the more reach you’ll have to deal with taller shrubs and hedges. The Makita DUH751Z 18V 75cm Brushless Hedge Trimmer features triple-edged cutting teeth specially designed to easily catch and securely hold branches. The Makita DUH751Z 18v hedge trimmer features a powerful brushless motor that is more efficient than a brushed counterpart providing around 30% longer runtime and requires no maintenance.

To prong the maintenance life, the hedge trimmer features a powerful motor which is brushless and can be set to 3 varying speeds, offering 0-2000 strokes per min on Low setting, Medium 0-3600 strokes per min and High offering 0-4400 strokes per min. It’s great for lightweight hedging – zipping through leaves, brush and smaller branches without any fuss – and its manoeuvrability makes it great for shaping lonicera or privet. It uses the same 20V batteries as Worx’s other garden and power tools, and although the 2Ah battery takes a couple of hours to charge, it will power through an hour or more of clipping without any problems. Most garden power tools are all the better when they go cordless, but that goes double for the humble hedge trimmer. And if you do come across something thicker or tougher, the GE-HC 18 has a party trick: the trimmer head can be switched for a mini-chainsaw attachment, with a 20mm blade that’s perfect for slicing through thicker branches or pruning your trees.Whatever you need and whatever size your garden, there’s a cordless hedge trimmer that’s right for you. The rear handle has an ergonomic rubber grip for firm control and rotates in 5 positions for comfortable prolonged cutting. While you wouldn’t want to take on any larger hedges with it, it’s surprisingly useful when you need to reach up high and clip the top.

Nothing is more tedious when you’ve got a lot of hedge to trim and tidy than having to deal with an extension cable and a dangling power cord. Barring the smallest topiary clippers, hedge trimmers start at around 35cm in length and go up to around 65cm. What’s more, hedge trimmers by their very nature make it all too easy to cut through the cord if you’re clipping at an angle without paying due attention. We gave the batteries a full charge, then took each trimmer out to battle with a mix of heavy conifer, box, laurel, and hornbeam hedges. We found it worked superbly on an overgrown hornbeam hedge, then helped us prune a series of conifers and fruit trees without any hassle at all.Once the height of your hedges reaches above 7ft or so, keeping the top neatly clipped can be a nightmare. Crucially, there’s a lot more cutting power here than with many other lightweight cordless trimmers. Einhell also makes a cheaper, hedge-trimmer-only tool – the GE-HH 18/45 – but this is one brilliant and versatile garden tool. However, a longer blade also means a heavier and more unwieldy hedge trimmer, so there’s always a balance to be found between size and weight. However, when you’ve got masses of hedge to trim – particularly dense conifers or woody laurel – you’ll be glad to have it.

However, it hasn’t got the power to handle thicker conifer hedges or larger branches, and the 16mm stated cutting width is very much the maximum. Even with a heavy battery attached – we tested using Kärcher’s 18V, 5Ah unit – it’s a very easy trimmer to work with, and that battery kept going for nearly an hour and still had enough puff left to swap into a Kärcher garden vacuum and sweep up some of the clippings.

Founded a year after the outbreak of the First World War, Makita Corporation specialized in the mass production and maintenance of electric motors. Powered by one 18V LXT lithium ion batter (not included) the hedge trimmer boasts a 75cm double sided blade with triple edged cutting teeth that are designed to capture the branches and hold them in place while cutting. Key specs – Power source: 18V li-ion battery; Blade length: 40cm; Maximum branch width: 22mm; Weight: 3. While it’s a little noisy for a cordless model – with a high-pitched motor noise that hits around 94dB at peak – there’s surprisingly little vibration transmitted through the handle. The DUH751RT is a compact and lightweight cordless Hedge Trimmer, with a 750mm cutting edge, powered by an 18V Li-ion LXT slide type battery (not supplied). The DUH751Z is equipped with double sided, curved blades reducing friction resistance which suppresses energy loss. Battery life depends on the power of the motor and the capacity of the batteries included with the trimmer, though you’ll find some trimmers sold without a battery or with a choice of different capacities.
