However, there’s little restriction on the types of these ingredients brewers can use. This includes the make up of the water, meaning it’s OK for brewers to treat the water they use so it suits the style of beer they’re brewing. Of course, the breweries don’t tell us that and many use the source of their water as a selling point. A cool lager that’s free from alcohol is ideal to refresh and rehydrate after a workout, when you’ve built up a thirst doing manual work, while enjoying outdoor activities or while relaxing with friends. Lemon Aspen Pilsner from @SobahBeverages . Citrus on the nose, orange marmalade, malts. Citrus when we taste too, but it's more earthy and floral than your traditional citrus fruit. As defined by governmental guidelines ow sugar means the drink contains less than 2.5g of sugar per 100mls. Products with a higher sugar content cause a spike in insulin and we react by storing more carbs as fat. You may also notice that although lower in sugar there is some carbs, this is usually more complex forms of sugar such as starches and fibre and the body uses these for energy.

Jever removes the alcohol rather than halting fermentation early, which means the yeast eats all the sugars from the grain leaving no sugar in the finished product and just 13 calories per 100ml. Since 1994, the brewery has belonged to the Dortmunder Brau und Brunnen Group, which was acquired by Radeberger Group, at the beginning of 2005.

Alcohol Free Beers are made just like the alcoholic ones with water, yeast, hops and barley. Some are brewed to a lower ABV and some have the alcohol removed through various techniques. Across Europe beers below 0.5% ABV are classed as alcohol free. In the UK drinks that are between 0.05% and 0.5% ABV are classed as non-alcoholic. By the 1960s the brewery was riding the wave of Pils-popularity, with their flagship Pilsener selling like, well, cold beer, which in turn fuelled expansion for the company. By the beginning of 2005 the brewery was acquired by German big boys the Radeberger Group, joining a slew of other veteran brewing brands. Svart/Hvit from @nogneo . Jever Fun is a perfectly quaffable alcohol-free pilsner lager, not reinventing the wheel, but doing what it does with aplomb. Classic pilsner flavours and aromas abound, and if every bar served this I’d be a very happy non-drinker – though I’d probably pour it into a glass to hide the awful branding. Buy Jever Fun Fun pours a light amber with a thin head of foam floating up top. The aroma is sharp and grainy yet still pretty clean. There’s no sign of the herbal, peppery notes that Jever’s full-strength pilsner is known for.Jever Fun was first produced in 1991 as an ‘alkoholfrei’ version of the brewery’s popular Jever Pilsener. It’s brewed as a full strength beer and then the alcohol is removed via cool vacuum distillation. I find the name of the beer to be rather cringeworthy. Drinking a beer from a bottle labelled ‘fun’ just looks silly in my eyes, like eating a meal named ‘yummy’. Watered-down and weak, the branding is not a good start. Let’s pop the top off this bottle and hope the beer is an improvement.
