About this deal

Suitable for use by children, hobbyists and artists, the paints are non-toxic and water-based. The richness of the colours is achieved by mixing the pigments with transparent acrylic emulsion; fixing the colour on the fabric is very easy – just let the colour dry and iron the fabric to permanently fix the pigments by heat. Fabric medium is a solution you add to acrylic paints to increase their ability to bind to fabric. Also know as textile medium, it gives the acrylic paint a softer more flexible finish, making it easier to paint on to fabric and reducing bleeding. It thins the paint without diluting the colour, and encourages the paint to adhere to the fabric, particularly once it has been heat set. How do you make fabric medium? When you have finished painting with the acrylic paint on the fabric, and it has been left to dry, you should place it into the washing machine on a gentle cycle, and then place it into the dryer on low heat. This will help set the color and extend the life of the paint. Now, you should mix the paint with the medium. You might feel a bit nervous if you never did it before, but in reality, it’s quite a straightforward process. I would say botching would be a harder challenge than getting it right! Acrylic paint on fabric without a medium is not as durable, so you need to carefully clean the garments without stripping the fabric of the paint. To wash the fabric, either spot treat any problem areas, hand wash it, or use the gentle cycle on the washing machine.

Acrylic paint is best used for materials you won't be wearing or washing, like a wall hanging or a decorative cushion. Fabric paint comes in a rainbow of colours, and most of them can be used in home décor. But going beyond preference, consider the project and the colour scheme of the environment before deciding which colour to buy. You can mix fabric paint and acrylic paint instead of using a fabric medium. You won’t get all the benefits of using fabric medium, but the fabric paint will help to soften the acrylic paint and make it more suitable to be used on fabric. Is Acrylic Paint Waterproof? At Spotlight we have a fantastic range of specialty paints perfect for use on fabric, but painting on fabric is a little different to painting on paper or canvas! Let us guide you on everything you need to know about how to paint fabric, including what kinds of fabric you can paint on, how to paint on fabric and what you need to do to seal your paint afterwards. A styrofoam sheet / cardboard sheet covered in plasticwhich is slightly bigger than your design (to beplaced under the painting area so that paint would not stain the other side of dress.) We decided to do both, and added vinegar to the mix hoping it would encourage the colour to ‘fix’ to the fabric. Vinegar is often used as a mordant in traditional dyeing, which we tried in our Turning Stains into Dyes tutorial. Now we had our ‘DIY fabric medium’ recipe. There is a Matte Medium which, when added to acrylic paint, creates a dull matte effect if you do not like the glossy look. If you plan to spray paint, you can add a special medium that will give the paint a sprayable consistency and prevent clogging of the sprayer. Do not forget that the medium and paint must mix together. Applying separate coats of them will not work. Once the medium dilutes the acrylic paint, you can clear it for application. Step 3. Prepare The Design

Use different brushes for each color, and under no circumstance, dip your brush into the paint bottle with some other paint on it. You will ruin the whole bottle. Step 3. Fabric Painting typesDon’t put the mixture on the fabric before you finish the design. Draw the pattern on the fabric with a fabric marker. Use a marker color that you can easily see on the fabric. Since fabric softeners have surfactants, they can make it easier for acrylic paint to combine with water. In other words, fabric softeners can help to thin acrylic paint.

There are so many plants that have a positive action on your skin, making them perfect to use in bath products. Our 21 Botanicals that are fabulous for your skin post doesn’t cover every single one, but will certainly give you a good starting point if you’d like to learn a little more. You need to ensure that the paint is completely dry before trying to heat set it. The paint might seem dry to the touch, but you should wait at least 24 hours before heat-setting the fabric. Set The Paint Once you have painted your fabric and left it to dry, you will need to set the paint on the fabric. Not only did the kids have lots of fun printing the bags, they also loved combining some gorgeous herbs to make both relaxing and invigorating blends.

Set Your Finished Designs

If you find that you are painting very often, prepare a styrofoam screen on which you can stretch the fabric; this can be attached with pins so that the fabric is somewhat stretched without wrinkles.
