About this deal

The movement isn’t supposed to be beautiful or highly decorated. It is supposed to be an automatic that does the job and which allows you to appreciate the fine art and technology behind a mechanical movement. Seiko 5 SNK805 strap Although it is not technically a Nato Strap, because it does not weave under the watch and come off easily like they do, it still looks the same.

Both the minute and hour hands are sword shaped. They help the watch to be both easy to read at a distance, and also allow precise timekeeping if needed. About its case – it’s made from stainless steel. Its bezel is as well. We’re happy that they aren’t poor in quality. Water Resistance The Seiko 5 is a classic in the watch world, and that is why you are looking at the SNK range, right? A daily beater sports watch that you can do almost anything to without having to worry. After all, they are not only solid, they are also super-affordable. I have also a SRPE61 with a 4R36 movement, the SNK seems to outlast it. Dunno … if you’re mainly desk working then hand winding may be important, but when I’m doing stuff the SNK lasts longer for me. Perhaps its down to individual patterns. The Seiko SARB065 provides practically everything you need in a dress watch: a sophisticated appearance to complement a fine suit, and a solid movement in terms of accuracy and precision. It is a watch created in conjunction with Ishigaki Shinobu, one of Japan's best mixologists and dubbed "Nippon's top bartender" by those who have sampled his work. These are super small watches, at least as far as modern men’s watches go. The case is 37mm x 11mm, so it won’t dominate a small wrist, if you have one. Although, anyone with a larger wrist might want to grab something a little bigger. In all likelihood, watches like this will be rare and unavailable to all but the most knowledgeable collectors in a few short years.

The watch also features a red-tipped second hand. The opposing side of this hand has a luminous dot, much like the meatball on an SKX, allowing you to read the seconds in the dark. The watch isn’t that big. Its case stretches 1.45 inches (37 mm)across. Weight-wise, it’s heavier than its counterpart. Fitted on top of the dial and to the case is a flat Hardlex crystal. This is a rather thin crystal. Hardlex is Seiko’s proprietary hardened mineral. It also weighs only 2 ounces, so is super light and easy to carry or do sports with. The Nato Style Band That is why this watch is so impressive. You don’t need to wind it, or change the battery. So long as you constantly wear it, it will last and run for years and years. While many Swiss brands play it conservative, Seiko produced dials over the past few decades that are playful, and feature an amazing array of design concepts. Over the years Seiko defined what it meant to blend creativity and craftsmanship – while still maintaining the functionality of a dial. Yes, there is lume on its dial. However, it isn’t that strong. It’s just bright enough to be read when it’s getting dark outside. Similarly, the yellow on the bezel insert has a metallic shine that changes in tone with the light. The hour hand in red was a great touch, and helps maintain the warm, playful feeling of the watch.

There’s a calendar on it. It reads the day as well as the date. Something neat about it is that the day and date are in contrasting colours. My personal thoughts on the Seiko 5 SNK805 are overwhelmingly positive. This is a lightweight, yet durable watch that is incredibly comfortable, contains effortless style, and somehow transcends a lot of different price levels. It fits within that weird window of prior generation Seiko watches that somehow get a knowing nod from Seiko-philes and high-end watch wearers alike. The circles and printed numbers on the dial are reminiscent of pilot watches. This, again, goes very well together with the military style. Seiko 5 SNK805 case Water resistance is minimal but useful. It will make it through the shower and being caught in the rain, but it should not be used for swimming or spend any major time under water. Barton Bands Pumpkin & Ivory NATO Strap on a Seiko SNK 809Regarding the looks of the Timex MK1 Mechanical, it has a classic ‘60s to ‘80s military vibe. In my view, this more faithful look makes it a little less versatile than the Seiko. It’s more casual and tool-looking, but I don’t think that would stop me from wearing it wherever during the Summer. Like the SNK805, the Timex also uses a two-piece 18mm nylon strap. With the MK1, though, there’s a nice stripe down the center that feels like a classy touch. The strap is also seriously comfortable, and I see no reason to swap it out for something else. Unlike many aftermarket companies, the parts we sell are at least as good as Seiko OEM parts, and in the case of our dials, many exceed the craftsmanship of entry level Seiko models. This year marks Grand Seiko's 60th anniversary, and with it comes renewed attention on the company's heritage. The aforementioned Grammar of Design, by renowned Taro Tanaka, is at the heart of the Grand Seiko history. Overall the SNK805 has a clean, made-for-purpose appearance, will stand up to years of use, and is the perfect daily driver for anyone who needs a simple – yet elegant – automatic watch. While there isn't a single model that characterizes the group or their aesthetic, there is one that gets a lot of attention among collectors, and that is the Grand Seiko SBGA211, aka the Snowflake.

Out of the many crystals available, the SNK805 has hardlex in place. The glass is tougher than mineral but is not as resistant as sapphire. Hardlex is widely seen in Seiko devices. If you want to see what we do with classic Seiko divers' dial design, take a look at our range of Seiko comparable aftermarket dials. We take some of the most innovative designs in the watchmaking world, and give them the namokiMODS touch. Homage Watch Lists: Audemars Piguet Alternatives | Breitling Alternatives | Grand Seiko Alternatives | Nomos Alternatives | Omega Alternatives | Rolex AlternativesSporty, more relaxed and easily worn in less formal situations, this watch is something you can wear outside, doing sports or doing almost anything actually. I just would not expect it to look the part if you are out on the town. The case of the Seiko 5 SNK805 has a rugged look thanks to its matte finish. Would the case be polished, it would lose a lot of its tool-like character and appear more like a classy everyday watch. A good choice by Seiko. The sides, on the other hand, are polished, which creates a nice contrast, and gives the watch a greater perception of quality and being well-finished. Seiko Mods are one of the best ways to get the watch design you really want, especially if you are working to express your own design ideas. Seiko mod parts aren’t all created equal, and if you want your Seiko diver to be ready for the water, think about how much quality matters.
