About this deal

If you want the smart features the iO5 offers, it is worth giving serious consideration to the iO6. It is often similarly priced, with perhaps a small premium. It has a display built into the handle which is more intuitive when it comes to selecting and knowing which mode is in use. Unlike premium iO models, this is not a magnetic charger and is not capable of recharging the battery in 3 hours.

is the suggested retail price of the iO5, but please do not pay this, it is not justifiable in any way. Able to stand upright on a countertop, it doesn’t tend to roll all that much when laid on a flat surface either. If lit red, the motor will slow the bristle movements to further protect the teeth until such time the pressure is relieved. In a relatively short period of time, you will learn what the correct force you need to use. But, like the iO9 and 10, the battery performance is a little inconsistent. At times, I’ve gotten only 14 days from the battery. I can’t explain why. Simply put, you don’t need so many. Daily Clean is more than sufficient for most. But, the Sensitive mode can be a nice extra to have for those days the teeth and gums might feel a little more tender. It is generally pretty easy to keep the handle clean and free from grime. But, do make sure you pay close attention to the brush head. Give it a good rinse after each use. You do too want to ensure you brush all your teeth fairly evenly to limit the chances of problems now and in the future. The timer encourages you to do just this.

Supplied in the box is a charging stand. White in colour, it has a 1.2 metre (4 foot) cable hardwired into it. The plug on the end of the cable is a 2 pin power adapter (suitable for UK bathrooms). It supports 220-240V.

Clinical data suggest Oral-B brushes may have the edge in performance, but the reality is few brushes do a bad job if used correctly. So don’t base your decision on this alone.

Used correctly, a manual toothbrush is perfectly satisfactory, but electric brushes have a number of benefits that no manual brush is able to match. Dentists recommend replacing your brush head every 3 months or sooner if it becomes worn for an optimal clean. Included in the box with the iO5 is a travel case and a brush head holder/storage unit. Box contents of the iO5 Oral-B brushes are far more noisy than most electric toothbrushes, but the iO Series handles are quieter.Expect about 18 days of use on a full charge of the iO4, assuming twice daily brushing, 2 minutes per time. FOR HEALTHIER GUMS IN JUST 1 WEEK remove 100% more plaque and even 2.5X in between teeth* with ORAL-B MOST ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY *vs a manual brush. PROTECT YOUR GUMS WITH iO PRESSURE SENSOR, Oral-B's only one to signal if you are applying the PERFECT PRESSURE for an effective and safe clean. Combines the unique round brush head from Oral-B with gentle micro-vibrations for a fresh, clean mouthfeel and 100% healthier gums in one week vs. a regular manual toothbrush On average, they operate at 10 decibels (dB) less. The iO4 registers a maximum of 64dB. But, on the sensitive mode, it was a couple of dB quieter still.

I often describe Oral-B brushes as providing an intense and almost aggressive clean. It’s the best way I can describe the sensation of the round brush head passing over the teeth and gums. It can be quite satisfying, your teeth instantly feel cleaner, but I know it’s not a sensation everyone likes. Particularly if you are used to the softer experience given by sonic toothbrushes from the likes of Philips Sonicare or Colgate. Many brands of toothbrushes now last 3-4 weeks on a single charge, so the Series 4 really falls a bit short. Particularly when you consider the size of the handle compared to the likes of SURI, which is much slimmer. The overall size is still significantly smaller than most sonic toothbrush heads. It’s not as quiet as many other brushes, but far less noisy than non-iO models But, equally, good toothbrushing habits does require a small amount of pressure to be applied. It’s a balance that can take some getting used to. With the iO4, striking this balance is made much easier as the brush tells you when you are doing it right and wrong. All system components (e.g., toothbrush handle, charger, power cord, SmartGuide). You do not need to include accessories like the brush heads or refill stand. Running repeated brushing cycles on the Series 4, the batteries drained after 1hr 38mins. Brushing twice a day for two minutes, you’re looking at roughly three-and-a-half weeks before you need a recharge. That’s not bad at all, although we’ve seen some Sonic brushes that can keep running for well over a month. Forget about fast charging, though. With the charger supplied, it’s best to charge the toothbrush overnight. Oral-B iO Series 4 review: Should I buy it?
