TRACING: MINDFUL BREATHING FOR STUDENTS FINGER TRACING: MINDFUL BREATHING FOR STUDENTS

Tracing for mindfulness is a practice that combines visual and tactile stimuli to engage the mind and body in the present moment. It involves focusing the attention on the movement of the hand as it follows a path or outlines an object. As a mindful exercise, tracing can be performed with various materials, including tracing paper, coloring books, sand trays, or digital apps. Do you get impatient sometimes? Or do you feel all wound up at the end of a busy day? All of that energy pent up in our bodies can make it hard to relax, enjoy our dinner or get to sleep. So, how about trying out a little ‘impatience dance’ at times like this? It’s a bit like the one that dogs do after they’ve got all excited at meeting a friend or all scared at meeting a hissing cat (or maybe that’s just my dog!). You simply stand, sit or lie down and gently jiggle or shake out different parts of your body. Try moving gradually through your body from top to bottom, or the other way up, jiggling and shaking each part as you go. How does that feel? Now, if you want, you could do both arms or legs at once, or even your whole body. Can you let your bum join in this jiggling and shaking? It does it really well! Notice how different you feel after you’ve done this little ‘impatience dance’.Most of us are aware of the benefits of mindfulness. Warmly regarded for its ability to ease stress and anxiety, improve sleep quality, increase happiness and contentment, and more, mindfulness is a powerful tool for helping us to get the most out of life. Many worksheets involve some element of practice or reflection before probing us to more deeply considered whatever our experience may be. Focus on the Movement: Pay close attention to the movement of your hand and the sensation of the tracing implemented against the surface.

3 Mindful Hand Exercises for Calm Kids - Calm Ahoy Kids

Life is fast-paced and you probably find that you spend most of your day in your head, thinking. We analyse, plan and set goals at work, compare, label and judge our experiences and reflect on and evaluate our emotions. Most of us also spent a lot of time dwelling on what happened in the past and anticipating what might happen in the future. The mind is constantly busy telling stories, interpreting our experience by filling in missing pieces of information and then ruminating over the stories it has created, whether or not they are actually true. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/324956418_Effectiveness_of_Mindfulness-based_Colouring_for_Test_Anxiety_in_Adolescents Practice three rounds of tracing: breathing in, breathing out, and pausing at the top and bottom of each finger]

This is a great way of anchoring yourself and you can do it any time, with your eyes open or closed, while sitting or even while walking around. Anchor yourself. Then breathe. If they’re certified through the ATCB, they’ll typically have the credentials ATR (registered art therapist) or ATCS (art therapy credentialed supervisor). This technique is a finger-tracing practice where we mindfully breathe and trace our fingers at the same time. Most often, what comes to mind first when we think about mindfulness practice is formal meditation. We envision someone seated quietly (in either silence or while listening to a guided meditation), refraining from engagement with the world around them. While this is indeed one picture of mindfulness practice, it is not complete. There are many ways to practice mindfulness beyond what we might first consider. When you’re living with a mental health problem, or supporting someone who is, access to the right information is vital.
