About this deal

The cover art, whilst very funny, simply doesn’t do this game any justice; presenting what is actually quite an enjoyable, challenging game as something very juvenile and ‘above’ the average board game enthusiast. It’s not all hard work though; when another player is head-scratching over a tricky symbol and pulls off one of the covers to see if they were correct, you’ve all learnt something whether your opponent got it right or wrong (though incorrect answers from other players are always a bonus!

During the game the players need to keep their markers inside the race lines while encountering events (cards) during the race and overcome them while your opponent keeps running.

To play the game, you roll the die and move around the board, then follow the directions of the squares you land on. Each player is given a number of “life” cards at the start of the game and when they have used up all their lives they are out.

We’re pretty sure she would, but there’s also an edge of fear as we know what a good memory and eye for detail she can have! Once the items have been dispatched through our service provider your item will take 1-2 working days to arrive. The box contains the playing board, 12 symbol tiles, 12 covering pieces, 4 elephant playing counters, 28 life cards and dice.I remember tearing off the wrapping, only to be met with a somewhat crudely drawn elephant, and the phrase: ‘You’ll need the memory of an elephant! Besides the board, there are 4 playing counters, 12 symbol tiles with matching covers, 28 double sided ‘life’ cards, and one die.

Each player starts with a maximum of seven lives – you can change this to make the game shorter if you wish. If you're a very competitive family, this could lead to a few arguments though but it was fun and again we’ve already played it a few times.

As is fast becoming our measure of whether a family board game is good or not, discussion soon turned to whether my mum would enjoy the game. Each space on the board will either require that a player guess the location of the particular tile, or allow players to challenge one of their opponents to the memory game, or will switch certain tiles around – hence making it harder to remember where everything is and, as the name of the game would suggest, baffling the player. The gameplay is centered around the train, as players move their meeples through its compartments and even jump on the roofs. My almost 6 year old seemed to enjoy it, my 3 year old didn't have a clue but considering it's aimed at age 8+ there is no surprise! As you can probably tell, there are plenty of squares around the board that are full of opportunities for you to lose lives. This is an intriguing game, when reading the back of the box I really couldn't understand how the tiles 'swap' themselves, I couldn't wait to give it a go. They are shuffled around and each one placed in the white square in front of the letters on the board.
