About this deal

I had the opportunity to hear him speak and meet him at the Fargo VA. He's a veteran from my own state of MN, AND he served in Iraq with many of my friends from high school and soldiers from NW MN. <3 I am so thankful that he shares his story with an open heart. Separation: Yes They are separated shortly (day?), but there was no mention or suggestion of other partners during this time. The very best book I could have read during this year of "life" (infertility, divorce, pandemic, career shift), reminding me that no matter what I have faced this last year, the sun still came up in the morning. "It's tough, but there is no alternative except to move on" (p273). SSG John Kriesel realized "the list of things I can do is long, but the list of those things I cannot do is very short." (p293). He reminds us to focus on what we CAN do despite our circumstances.

Paul makes you feel like he's chatting to you as a friend. The stories are bold, honest, sometimes hilarious, sometimes very sad.' ***** This is an incredibly difficult read at times, because it’s about real people, real lives and a heinous crime that actually happened. Queiroz shows tremendous endurance and courage throughout, despite the obstacles she has to overcome, but perhaps more so because of the honesty of her emotions.

After completing a mishmash of jobs, Leather decided to pursue a writing career as a journalist. His career in the journalism industry exposed Leather to many different countries and international incidents. Leather has worked for a variety of newspapers including Glasgow Herald, Daily Mirror, The Times, Daily Mail and the South China Morning Post where he lived in Hong Kong. Leather was born in Manchester, England and attended Manchester Grammar School before graduating from Bath University. Contrary to many other writers and journalists who studied writing or communication, Leather graduated from Bath University with a BSc in Biochemistry. Hon, he’s a man and he likes to have fun, but once he’s done havin’ fun, his girls go. They don’t spend the night. He doesn’t wake up with them. " He writes as he speaks, entirely from the heart . . . with his usual warmth, care, concern and honesty, a brilliant read.' ***** This book is a perfect example of why that question even exists. I will start this review by telling you, this book had me on the edge of that line a couple of times. But in true KA fashion, even though she took me to my absolutely limit..... She did it.... She still made me fall in love with her characters, their story and look past a couple of things that made me not so happy.

Chrissie Foster is the mother who brought the rich and powerful Catholic Church to its knees over its global abuse of children, including two of her daughters, Emma and Katie. Like the Boston Globe’s Spotlight team, she built an undeniable case in her first book, Hell on the Way to Heaven, which helped inspire Australian governments to hold world-leading inquiries. This book goes against so many things that I was under the impression the author stood for, no abuse and girls stand up for each other and themselves. This is not just another war story. This is the story of an ordinary young man who overcame extraordinarychallenges with a lot of help from others, including many strangers, and he emerged stronger and more in love with his country, his family, and ultimately his own life. Still Standing … How? How is she still standing? How did she physically and emotionally survive, keep her tiny baby alive and then manage to put it all down on paper to share with us? How did she find the strength to go on to rebuild her life? I asked myself these questions SO many times, even after I'd finished the book I still questioned where she got the strength from. The conclusion I came to is - she survived because she's a mother and she knew her kids needed her around.

After spending hours writing the manuscript at his office typewriter, Leather submitted it on a whim to publisher Harper Collins. The novel was discovered on the “slush pile” at Harper Collins. Essentially, the slush pile is a collection of every manuscript a publishing company has and the copies can be read by anyone from the CEO to a secretary. Burning with the fires of hope and possibility, As Long as the Lemon Trees Growwill sweep you up and never let you go. Closure: This had a cute epilogue and what I would call a HEA ending they’re married with baby but it wasn’t quite up to par with many of KA’s epilogues. For example, The Fireman, published in 1990 was told from the perspective of a British tabloid journalist who went to Hong Kong to investigate the suspicious suicide of his sister. After working as a journalist for more than 10 years, Leather chose to step away from his career to pursue fiction writing full time. When the twin brother of a fellow trooper commits suicide under mysterious circumstances in Thailand, Standing and his brother take time off to investigate. In Thailand they are assured that it was clearly a suicide, but the longer Standing and Green remain the less things feel right. And finally, when they push too far, there is an explosion of violence and it doesn’t look too good for the unarmed good guys but of course, they are SAS trained….

KA works into all of her tales, beautiful nuggets of life lessons. Things told or said that will hit you in your heart while reading. This is her gift and the reason I am addicted to her writing. This had my crying, nervous and laughing out loud. I would expect nothing less from the fabulously honest Paul O'Grady.' ***** Overall, this is a good start to a new series and I'm already looking forward to seeing what else will happen in this world. Chrissie could not have known that the stranger-danger she feared actually lurked in the presbytery attached to the girls’ Catholic primary school, with both Emma and Katie victims of clergy sex abuse. Chrissie’s heartbreaking account of her family’s suffering – and of the Church’s lies, silence, denials and threats – Hell on the Way to Heaven, was published in 2010. The Foster family’s case was one of those that prompted the establishment of the Victorian Parliamentary Inquiry into the Handling of Child Abuse by Religious and Other Non-Government Organisations and the subsequent Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. I finished this and originally was thinking between an 2.5 and a 3 but after a couple of days have settled on a 1 star.

Clara, baby, I’m not lettin’ you go. We’ll get past this. You just gotta learn not to stand in my way.” It hurt because he knew I’d be there any minute and he obviously didn’t intend to hide the fact that he had others, not only me.' I'm not sure a book has ever moved me more - and I'm not sure I've ever felt the range of emotions I did whilst reading a book. Ever. They do what they wanna do when they wanna do it with who they wanna do it. You're his woman, babe, you gotta know that's the way and you gotta keep your mouth shut and put up with it. You do not give him shit, even if he comes home smellin' of her. You just keep your mouth shut." How does Stephen Leather just keep producing such high quality thrillers? He uses a variety of characters in his books and this is a Matt Standing novel. Standing is a serving SAS Sergeant, deadly in combat but prone to frustration when not under the pressure of doing what he does best.
