About this deal

When asked about his attitude towards SHARP, RASH and political correctness, he replied: “Nothing to do with them…SEARCH AND DESTROY!!!” The ISD 2023 should be noted as being a gig that Ian Stuart himself would have recognised and would have immediately felt at home in the setting, the music and the crowd. This was a fitting tribute to the memory of Ian Stuart and a symbolic gesture of continuity and defiance towards those who would deny the opportunity to stage such an occasion and celebration of the man, his politics and his music. Having been active in racial Nationalist politics throughout my entire adult life, I thought I would like to share a few of my memories of those early days in Leeds.

Donaldson was both a musician and ran the Blood and Honour neo-Nazi network. He was the frontman of a band called Skrewdriver, which openly promoted far-right groups and also was also the lead in two other bands called the Klansman and White Diamond. On the 5th of October, Ian Stuart Donaldson funeral was held at Carleton Crematorium. Among the 20 or so people who attended was Cat, Ian's fiancé Diane, his brother Tony and his life long friend, and original Skrewdriver drummer, Grinny. Bon Jovi's song ‘Blaze Of Glory’ was played and it’s been said that Lemmy of Motörhead sent flowers. When the Skinhead craze died down Ian turned to the Suedehead scene. It was a natural progression. The new scene was made up mostly of ex-Skinheads who had out grown their crops and were listening to Northern Soul music. For Ian, transport became a trendy Lambretta scooter. Although he had listened to Ska and Northern Soul music of the Skins and Suedes, his main musical influence remained the Rolling Stones. However, John "Grinny" Grinton later stated in an interview that he had no problem with the new Skrewdriver, and that he became a member of the National Front along with Donaldson. Before forming Skrewdriver, Ian was singing in a band called Tumbling Dice who mostly played cover versions of the Stones, Free and The Who. At the time it was common for Pub bands to play cover songs all night. Tumbling Dice soon became popular around the Poulton area. Things were going pretty well for Tumbling Dice, so a rough demo was cut and Ian set about forwarding the tapes to various record companies. He soon found himself pleasantly surprised to receive an invitation to join a record label in London. Unfortunatly, the other band members weren't as keen on the move and in 1976 The Tumbling Dice disbanded.Climax Blues Band The Climax Blues Band (originally The Climax Chicago Blues Band) was formed in late 1968 in Stafford, England. The original… Every year around his death, White Power bands host different concerts across the world. The concerts are titled ISD Memorials. Both Blood and Honour and Combat18 are involved. Several of the other band members have criminal convictions due to their association with the Stomper Crew, another violent Quebec-based extreme right skinhead gang. PROFITING FROM HATE This version of the band split up in January 1979 after a concert in Warrington, but Donaldson resurrected the name Skrewdriver in 1982 using new musicians.

In other countries, Blood and Honour has a bigger following and operate more in the open and even further on the fringes of society. Some countries view Blood and Honour as a terrorist organisation. Read More Related Articles In the late 80s Blood and Honour were publishing quarterly magazines and staging concerts across the country but they had also provoked a highly organised opposition group called Anti-Fascist Action. Attending Baines grammar school, Ian managed to collect five high grade O levels. There was no doubting his intelligence, but his heart always tend to be in music and youth culture. Since South Africa has become our passion, we will reproduce the lyrics of their song “Strikeforce” : However, John “Grinny” Grinton later stated in an interview that he had no problem with the new Skrewdriver and that he became a member of the National Front along with Donaldson.

Unfortunately the gig never took place, although I did meet Ian Stuart at a number of NF activities and also on nights out in the Angel pub in Islington. As they say, the rest is history! At the time the coroner delivered a verdict of accidental death stating: “We are still no nearer finding out what caused this tragic accident. All we can say is that because of the car’s two defects the car became less easy to control.” The memoir No Retreat confesses how he was constantly targeted. “The event that seemed to give Stuart the real horrors was when he went out early one morning to buy a newpaper and a pint of milk and was hit across the head by a large mancunian wielding a Lucozade bottle.” At the time I was an activist with the National Front in Leeds and we had already dipped our toe into the water by printing the Punk Front zine, a tatty newsletter which was aimed at supporters who were into punk but not yet active. The brainchild of Eddy Morrison, it was probably the first attempt by any modern racial Nationalist organisation to involve itself in the alternative music scene. British Movement was well represented at this event, both in terms of the audience and the bands, with the customary involvement of BM in the various roles ensuring that the function passed smoothly and also providing an opportunity to sell BM merchandise and to catch up with comrades from across the UK.
