About this deal

I was on the edge of my seat! Full of action and danger, this book had me tense and hopeful that everything was going to turn out all right. April and her Dad make a fantastic team and although they have their differences, it was nice to see how they interact with each other as the book progresses. Some big changes have happened in April's life and her character progression as she learned to deal with and accept these changes was lovely to see.

So Bear, April and Peanut set off on another wild adventure through the deadliest conditions, the coldest of temperatures and the strongest gale force winds with little food. Will she be able to make it in time to save little Peanut from starvation? The author’s passion for her subject makes for a powerful and memorable reading experience that will certainly not disappoint the many fans of the award-winning The Last Bear, providing a satisfying and credible outcome which leaves you filled with hope for both April and Bear. The perfect blend of adventure and environmental activism, with real emotional depth. But along the way, she discovers much more than she bargained for – a tiny polar bear cub, desperately in need of her help. In freezing temperatures, April must navigate the dangerous Arctic terrain and face her deepest fears if she’s to save him. Hannah's story of Bear and his love for his cub made me unable to put this down (and I'm not a speed reader!) I couldn't stop reading because I had to know if the plan could work.April persuades Dad to return to Svalbard, he's not happy- Maria doesn't really understand why as she hasn't heard the full story. Dad points out it might not be Bear but April is convinced.

The unmissable follow-up to the phenomenal bestselling and award-winning The Last Bear. Beautifully illustrated by Levi Pinfold and perfect for readers 8+ April Wood has returned home from her adventure on Bear Island. But, over a year later, she can’t stop thinking about Bear. It’s been a year since April Wood’s big adventure on Bear Island and she misses it and her best friend Bear terribly. In this book, April is trying to settle into her new life at home but, of course, missing her beloved Arctic friend. April has a special power that enables her to sense when something isn't right with Bear, and she suddenly gets a message that her help is needed once again and she heads off to Svalbard in search of Bear, with her father accompanying her all the way.

But the frozen environment of the tundra in winter is unbelievably hostile to human travel, and despite hiring the most highly skilled (and reluctant!) guide in Longyearbyen, things go badly awry with their Husky-powered expedition. I love these book and the focus on his humans are impacting the natural world, I love the artic landscape and getting to meet the polar bears again. I did initially have some frustration with the character of April who seemed hell bent on ignoring all the safety protocols and putting herself constantly in danger. I loved seeing bear and peanut and the relationship April has with bear. I loved going on another artic adventure and the discussion this book promotes with climate change, nature conservation and human impact is huge and so vital. This is gorgeous writing for both young readers up to adults. Joyous escapism and getting the true message across to children about the plight of the polar bears who are facing starvation today. The way it’s blended just works. It’s not preachy or over the top and the storytelling is lovely.

April Wood has returned home from her adventure on Bear Island, but over a year later, she can’t stop thinking about Bear. Beautifully illustrated by Levi Pinfold, Finding Bear is a stunning story of survival, a heartwarming tale of love and shows us how hope is born from the smallest of beginnings. But along the way, she discovers much more than she bargained for - a tiny polar bear cub, desperately in need of her help. In freezing temperatures, April must navigate the dangerous Arctic terrain and face her deepest fears if she's to save him. So begins an unforgettable journey across frozen tundra and through glaciers. But in Svalbard, April discovers more than she bargained for – a baby polar bear cub, desperately in need of her help. April must navigate the dangerous Arctic terrain and face her deepest fears if she’s to save him.I absolutely loved the way that Finding Bear is an adventure story and can be accessed on that initial level, but is so multifaceted in the themes presented that the relatability for all readers is astounding. There are family dynamics as April uncovers her real emotions about Maria arriving in her Dad’s life, the sense of loneliness and the need to belong arises out of April’s difference from her fellow pupils, and the realisation of what creates abiding and enduring love at all levels permeates the entire story, especially through April’s relationship with Bear. A brilliant, beautiful sequel that resonates with emotional truth. April and Bear's second adventure asks profound questions about our impact on the environment while keeping readers on the edge of their seats. If ever there was a book to spark change, this is it' Aisling Fowler I have not read the first book about Bear by Hannah Gold, so I was slightly apprehensive about beginning with the sequel. And it did take me a couple of chapters to really become immersed in the story. But Finding Bear is an absolutely beautiful story. A twist at the end of the story surprised me and left me with tears rolling down my face and a smile on my lips. Every emotion overflows throughout this book. Hannah's words bring Bear, his cub, April and her family, Tor, Lisé, Jurgen and Hedda to life.
