About this deal

It's worth mentioning here Japanese culture is a lot less uptight about this sort of body-part humor than the West. For example there's a traditional children's song about it, which begins: Tanuki also appears in another very popular video game; Animal Crossing. Tom Nook, one of the most popular characters, is a Tanuki. Want to learn more about Karakuri in Wild Hearts? Wild Hearts might seem similar to Monster Hunter, but the Karakuri system really sets it apart. Karakuri are structures that you can build in Wild Hearts, and they range from base-building areas such as a tent and campfire, to massive weapons that you can summon mid-fight to devastate your enemies.

Later that night, the Tanuki came to visit the old man while he was sleeping. The animal was grateful to its benefactor and decided to use its transformation power to thank him. Meanwhile, he had heard that a monk was looking for a tea kettle. Cunningly, the Tanuki transforms into a kettle to allow his savior to bargain for it. Just out of curiosity, how does the Japanese Tanuki or "Raccoon Dog" compare/measure up to the North American Raccoon? I read on Wikipedia that the North American Raccoon is decended from the "Lesser Panda" (whatever that is) and crossed over the bearing strait into North America over a few million years ago, so it apparently shares much more of it's DNA with Panda bears than Cats or Dogs. That would explain the dark circles around the eyes. If you've ever seen a Raccoon's paws up close, they have highly articulated hands quite unlike the stubby paws of cats or dogs. Bake-danuki ( 化け狸) are a kind of yōkai (supernatural beings) found in the classics and in the folklore and legends of various places in Japan, commonly associated with the Japanese raccoon dog or tanuki. The two employees that work for him are also Tanuki. Interestingly, the furniture they sell can shapeshift, much as the mythical Tanuki can. Cute Tanuki shop at a shopping street Sapporo Hokkaido

The big belly of the tanuki means that you can keep calm during turbulent times and make decisions that take guts.

The Tanuki's Mythical Powers

Tanukis and foxes are similar at first glance. They're both smallish, wild canines native to Japan. They are both adaptable and successful over a wide range of habitats, including cities. If you read Japanese folklore, you'll see they both have shapeshifting powers which they use to deceive people. They're so similar, they can even be spoken of as a kind of unit using the jukugo word kori 狐狸 ( こり ), made up of the kanji for tanuki 狸 ( たぬき ) and kitsune 狐 ( きつね ). In modern times, the tanuki's influence can be seen in Japanese pop culture, where it is a popular character in video games like Animal Crossing, television shows, and other media. Its image can also be found on various types of merchandise, from toys and clothing to food and beverages.
