Used as a straightforward guitar amp, the Katana-Artist II sounds authentically ‘real’, with responsive overdrives and a wide dynamic range that’s helped by the 100-watt Class AB output stage and the matching 2x12 enclosure. To our ears, there’s more than a little Tweed influence in the Artist II’s Clean, Crunch and Lead presets, while the Brown voice is lifted from the Boss Waza head and adds extra harmonics for a soaring lead sound with a vocal-like quality that’s great fun to play with.
With its built-in BOSS effects, the Katana-Head lets you perform anywhere with just a guitar and amp. Connecting to BOSS Tone Studio via USB provides access to 65 fully customizable effects, and you can load your favorites into the amp’s various effects sections. For optimal performance, stay up to date with the current Katana Mk II system software and BOSS Tone StudioHowever, you do need to adjust settings between those scenarios and this is where the Katana falls flat a bit. You only get to save a few presets. And, when you are in a specific preset, you can't know where exactly your EQ pots are dialed in, so rotating one of them makes your settings jump to an extremely different location.
