This book is interesting from an unusual point of view. It's as much as about the therapeutic process, and about the psychiatrist as it is about the patient and their crimes. It is interesting to read how the author interprets words and gestures, and finds them not only indicative of something in the patient, but of something in herself too. If this seems to possibly prejudice the therapy in any way, she consults a supervisor or another psychiatrist. Oh you don’t say so? I wonder which times of relative social stability and wealth equality these researchers were using to make their comparisons.) This book has good spicy, a good story, fake dating, study sessions, brothers best friend, virgin mets playboy ahh I loved it all. The thoughtful and balanced approach that Dr Adshead takes with her patients was impressive. Her "asides" of how patients make her feel are very thoughtful and interesting. I think I probably highlighted more sections in this than in most of the books I've read because they seemed so interesting and worth attention. It is definitely one of the best medical non-fiction books I have read. I would recommend it to anyone with an interest in the subject - from a professional slant or simply interested. As per usual, Veronica Eden’s writing was fast paced & captivating & I not only found myself relating to the characters but also anticipating what was yet to come!

The Devil You Know is a MUST read if you love brother’s best friend trope. This book has intriguing characters that always captivate you and make you want to keep reading.
