About this deal

It’s nearly impossible to come out of it without empathy for and real outrage on behalf of Spears, whose admitted bitterness over the dire circumstances of the last decade-plus of her life . Besides being available in English, the book will also be released in Hungarian, Dutch, French, Spanish, Swedish, Lithuanian and more. I have no doubt her memoir will have a similar impact – and will be the publishing event of the year. This is a brave and astonishingly moving story about freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith, and hope.

Speaking to PEOPLE in this week’s issue, Britney said, “Over the past 15 years or even at the start of my career, I sat back while people spoke about me and told my story for me. Audible also has thousands of books included with your membership that you can listen to every month, plus podcasts, meditations and more. The publication has also reported that Spears has scheduled at least one meeting with a 'top producer' in the past several months. Rarer joyful moments are delivered with warmth, reminding listeners that Spears is more than the spectacle the media has made her out to be. In a July 2023 Instagram post, Spears teased the text, telling fans, "I worked my ass off for this book.

According to a release, the memoir “illuminates the enduring power of music and love – and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms. It’s very sad to read Britney’s own words on paper, of how her demise in show business took place and how she was powerless to change that for 13 years of her life. The singer has many fans in her corner, with longtime friend Paris Hilton telling PEOPLE recently that she's "so proud" of Spears for "telling her story," and Jada Pinkett Smith — who just released her own memoir, Worthy — sharing on Instagram that she "can't wait" to read it, as well. Promising to reveal “for the first time her incredible journey [and] strength at the core of one of the greatest performers in pop music history,” according to a press release from Gallery Books, the memoir “illuminates the enduring power of music and love — and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms. According to The Ankler, Margot Robbie, Brad Pitt, Reese Witherspoon and Shonda Rhimes are among the producers set to bid somewhere in the 'mid-eight figures' range for the rights.

In the early years of the last century, a desperate young girl changes her name and flees the confines of her brutal, dominating gangland family in London. Jennifer Bergstrom, the senior vice president and publisher of Gallery Books, also told People that “Britney’s compelling testimony in open court shook the world, changed laws, and showed her inspiring strength and bravery.

Anyway, to those who were hoping for more of the gory details, it’s hard for traumatized people to do that. Spears goes on to share a story about her mother allowing her to drink alcohol “for fun” when she was in the eighth grade, and reveals that she was body-shamed by her father. The first excerpt from the pop star’s highly anticipated book came just a week before its official release. A cautionary tale about coercion, misogyny, control, exploitation, and the insidious grip of the patriarchy… Spears shares this story, which will undoubtedly be dissected and recounted elsewhere, with astonishing clarity.
