Built for peeling, coring, and slicing apples, this can be converted to peel-only mode for potatoes or for other fruits and vegetables that don’t need to be cored or sliced. The peeling blade is adjustable to two settings for smaller foods or deeper peeling, or for larger foods or less aggressive peeling. We successfully peeled and cored apples, and moved on to peeling potatoes and sweet potatoes. This worked best with foods that were more round rather than uneven or oval. With some potatoes, we had to do a little trimming to remove sections of peel. We also had to cut our long sweet potatoes to fit. LindaB Great quality product I bought this to replace an old one. Excellent as ever. Feels good to hold. It has a sharp blade which peels vegetables easily. Shape: Do you want to use a traditional straight peeler or a Y-shaped peeler? Some like a Y-shape for easier peeling, whereas others opt for a straight blade for precision. It’s really down to personal preference. Some peelers have multiple blade options in one if you want the option to switch between serrated and straight. Additionally, a swivel blade allows you to peel in both directions and with much more freedom, whereas using a stiffer, stationary blade means you'll have to be on top of holding it at the proper angle for it to grab the peel.

The rubber base has a lever that suctions the peeler to the counter, and that worked well during tests. The peeler didn’t move at all until we released the lever. While this peeler won’t work with every vegetable that normal peelers could handle, it’s a particularly useful tool for apples. In testing, this felt very smooth when peeling. Unlike some of the metal peelers, this required very little force to get a good cut. It performed best when used with a light touch, which made it less tiring to use. While this worked well peeling tomatoes, we found that it was best to move the peeler side-to-side rather than pulling it in the direction of the cut. Electric peelers run on a motor and save you time and effort. Some are self-contained and run on their own power, while others are attachments for appliances like a stand mixer. They generally spin the produce against a blade to remove the skin in a continuous strip. They're helpful if you're facing a big batch or if you have trouble using manual peelers.The most important part of the peeler is the blade. If the blade is strong and sharp, you’re going to have a tough time getting through certain vegetables, and you also want a blade that stays sharp. It's also made from dishwasher safe stainless steel, meaning cleaning is easy.

It came with a plastic guard but it didn't hold in place, it's transparent and got lost in the drawer! If you’re wanting an automatic peeler, but you don’t own a stand mixer, you can opt for this freestanding electric peeler. It claims to work on most produce, such as potatoes, apples, citrus, and stone fruits. Although the position of the peeler can be adjusted to accommodate fruit and veggies of all sizes, it struggles with thinner items like parsnips and carrots and heavier items like butternut squash.
