About this deal

Think Lord of the rings meets bedknobs and broomsticks with a bit of harry potter, echoes of Labyrinth, adventure, creatures and a quest despite Frankie raging it is most assuredly NOT A QUEST.

I really loved seeing the progression from all of the characters and I always wanted to know what was going to happen next. Frankie did have big plans to watch YouTube and eat pot noodles that weekend but it looks like she'll just have to go on an epic mega-dangerous quest instead . Joel – Frankie’s annoying nerd brother who spends all his time playing computer games like Elf-Quest and just generally being really super annoying. At points I did feel like the author was trying a bit to hard to relate to a younger audience which is why it got a 4 star rating from me but overall this was fantastic. We honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' continuous connection to Country, waters, skies and communities. Frankie Best Hates Quests brings together gaming, fantasy and relatable characters in an accessible epic adventure! Frankie Best Hates Quests is an exciting, Pixar-like fantasy for middle grade readers from Chris Smith, one half of best-selling author duo with Greg James. From the incredible imagination of Chris Smith - bestselling author and now a major new solo talent - comes an extraordinary accidental adventure for fans of Cressida Cowell and Pixar's Onward.

As the true nature of her quest is revealed, Frankie begins to question her priorities: perhaps there is room in her life for a little magic, after all. Frankie really doesn’t like Parallelia when she first steps into it, but her little brother Joel loves it so much! Very soon, she has unwittingly joined the Fellowship of the Bacon Roll and is surrounded by the brave warriors, noble sidekicks, mysterious double-crossers and conflicted villains that one would expect to see in any generic fantasy story.

Not only is she stuck at Grandad's for a whole week while her parents swan off to the arctic, now she's discovered that there's NO WIFI anywhere in the house! for me, I think this is a standalone, not sure if the author would revisit the world he created, I hope so. A fun and funny adventure- with a narrator that frequently breaks the fourth wall - that deconstructs and gently mocks a lot of the classic quest fantasy tropes.
