It goes really well with the knurled brass handles and the brass inside the pendant lights. I also love it because it looks good after lots of use and as good as when I first got it. You don’t really want to be changing temperature often, though – it’s a single button you use to cycle through temperatures. Some boiling water taps have a slider or controls that make it easier to go up and down – this is very much a ‘set it and forget it’ setup. The tap automatically switches to child safety mode when not in use. Pressing the electronic dial on one side wakes the tap from its safety standby mode and it glows white. Then twist to select a mode: it glows red for filtered 100°C boiling water and blue for cold filtered water. There are two options for tank size: 3 and 5.5 litres. They are made of titanium to reduce limescale build up. Maintenance costs and replacement filters Touch controls mean you can do clever stuff like tap the InSinkErator for 30 seconds of filtered water at ambient temperature, perfect for filling a water bottle. There’s also an optional add-on for filtered, chilled water at 3-10°C. This 4-in-1 is easy to install and comes with great instructions to follow. The temperature reaches 100˚C (boiling point) unlike other boiling taps on the market, and it is stored at 105˚C, ready for when you need it next. CoolTouch also keeps the outer of the tap cool, even when the water is boiling. All hot water taps have a filter to remove chemicals from the water. This will make the water taste better - useful if you have a three-in-one tap that delivers cold as well as hot water - and protects the tank from limescale and sediment, which can damage it. As capacity goes, the standard tank sizes aren’t too different from each other. A 2.4L tank will already hold enough water to dispense 5-6 cups without reheating, which takes roughly 4 minutes for the Athena model. Unless you have a household requiring large amounts of boiling water in a short space of time, a 2.4L tank is often more than big enough to handle day-to-day use. Water types Most manufacturers recommend that you change the filter every six to 12 months and, in some cases, it can invalidate your warranty if you don't. Some manufacturers also recommend using a descaling solution to clean the inside of the tank. There’s a lot of choice out there now, but Fohen’s colour range and prices really drew me in. I knew I wanted something beyond the standard chrome to make our kitchen feel extra special, so when I found the pink Fahrenheit tap it was love at first sight! We also wanted something that was simple to use and didn’t take up too much space under the sink.
