About this deal

I've got a few Oceanus models with a battery over 16 years old and they still take and hold charge fine. It’s a credit to the quality of this watch that it has made enough of an impression to remain in the rotation.

The features of the Casio is damn hard to beat, but the 200M water resist is nice and i think the Citizen looks a bit classier. It's more generic looking and sportier than the arguably dressier and more flexible (looks-wise) M170, and the bracelet is one step away from titanium scrap metal (even if it looks nice from a distance), but it wears just that much better on my wrist. While that may suffice in Japan, I’m not sure us Brits appreciate such a confusing and convoluted naming strategy. This means battery changes aren’t going to be needed nearly as frequently as with a traditional quartz movement; there are reports of some of these even lasting several decades before failing to hold a charge. I'll probably let the 1A1ER go at some point in the future but for now it's a slightly dressier alternative to the 1A2ER.

Despite its beauty, remarkably, the dial also houses a solar cell as part of the ‘tough solar’ technology. This is accompanied by a raised minute track, which incorporates an inner angled surface too; contributing further to the depth present on the dial. All you do is insert this into one of the small openings on the rear and the scissor-clamp system will unlock the link, allowing you to simply pull it away.Either way, it’s clearly enough water resistance for day to day use, which is all this watch was designed for anyway.

I like how the case flanges out between the buttons too, although I can understand if some people find it ugly.I recently bought an ever-so-slightly different model in their Lineage line (black face, waterproof to only half the pressure, some other small differences). About that S100, would you mind measuring the diameter of the crystal for me and/or shoot a side by side pic with the M170T perhaps?

You can also select one of three options, to remain on the display while no other functions are engaged. I own a version of the M100 and totally agree with the advantages of titanium, sapphire, solar, RC, and ana-digi with perpetual calendar. It's rattly and cheap feeling, to the point where if this was on something like the AE1200 you wouldn't pick up on the fact that that the bracelet should be on a more expensive watch. Therefore, some wrist sizes are going to land in that middle-ground, where the bracelet is either too small or too large. I staked the "loops" where the pin goes through, and used a couple drops of Loctite sleeve retaining compound.

It can be worn when showering and bathing (not recommended) and that’s fine for a wristwatch of this type. diameter suggests, as that measurement is artificially bolstered by the bulges upon each flank of the watch. The clasp is exactly the same as on the M170D, although this particular clasp doesn't seem to line up correctly when you push it closed.
