If we could revise this title, we might call it Letters to a Young Artist, since this classic text supersedes poetry lessons (and arguably art, with its contents mirroring life lessons more than anything). A thin but rich volume, Letters to a Young Poet charts the correspondence between Rainer Maria Rilke and a burgeoning cadet struggling to write — and, worse, struggling to accept his circumstances. When the young poet asked Rilke if he thought that he should keep writing, Rilke famously responded: “Go into yourself and test the deeps in which your life takes rise; at its source you will find the answer to the question whether you must create.”As with all self help books (including parenting self help books), I feel that they are good to know but not necessarily easy to model/enact.

The 9-step process to identifying problem areas in your body - and how to fix them.- The best exercises for over-fifties - that ensure mobility and strength for years to come. Notice how GPA and sport statistics are not part of that equation. Yet we live in a society that focuses and devotes a LOT of time, energy and money on just those two things. And we have a LOT of unhappy children because of it. In this Compendium, CSR International has compiled summaries of the best research on corporate sustainability, social responsibility and business ethics since 2009. Volume 2 on Environment profiles over 500 research publications between 2009 and 2014 – including practitioner reports, market surveys and academic papers – from over 80 authors and more 400 organisations. Specifically, it contains research abstracts on the following environment-related topic areas: sustainable development and the green economy, sustainability practices, sustainable resource use, prevention of pollution, climate change, protection of the environment and biodiversity, and sectoral approaches. Buy the paper book / Buy the e-book. The CSR International Research Compendium: Volume 3 (Society) IN any case, the author promotes character building in 7 specific traits, to develop strivers instead of thrivers. These are the 7 traits: Thrivers" mostly covers ground well-trodden by others: our kids need more autonomy, more play, more comfort with failure, less tech, and less micromanaging. It’s also wordy with prose that isn’t gripping enough to stand up to interruptions (reading when the kids are around) or exhaustion (reading after they’re asleep). I thought Borba stepped over the line in a few places, from ringing an alarm bell to catastrophizing around modern kids’ mental health, and from promoting optimism to toxic positivity. Last gripe: The book seems to be written largely about and for “high performers in affluent communities.”I thought the author did a wonderful job breaking down some very intangible topics into thought provoking commentary and useful tools.
