The Rangoon Creeper is a woody vine with flowers in bright clusters. These sweet-smelling flowers bloom each spring in four to five-inch groups that continuously “creep” toward the sunlight and are striking as ornamental flowers for archways and gazebos. Blooms are continuous in a warm, tropical environment. A 2017 review found that resveratrol may have protective effects against lung cancer in both human and laboratory studies. The mechanisms include preventing cell proliferation and tumor growth, inducing cell death in cancer cells, and inhibiting metastasis.

Tannin can be added to help stabilize colour, to prevent oxidation, and to help combat the effects of rot. Thinning out the grapes in each bunch encourages even ripening and improves air circulation, which reduces fungal diseases. But it’s a fiddly job, so is usually only worth doing on dessert greenhouse vines. Use vine scissors, which have long, narrow blades, or nail scissors, and carefully snip off about one in three grapes per bunch. Proanthocyanidins may reduce oxidative damage in the body. They may also help prevent heart disease and cancer ( 6, 7, 8).

Red Vines is a brand of red licorice candy manufactured in Union City, California by the American Licorice Company. Red Vines Original Red Twists are also sometimes referred to as red licorice despite containing no licorice root. The original Red Vines were cherry-flavored, but in 1952, with a slight formula change, the Red Vines Original Red Twist flavor was introduced. Drinking small amounts of red wine may reduce the risk of heart disease by helping to retain the “good” HDL cholesterol in the blood. Oxidative damage and the oxidation of the “bad” LDL cholesterol may also be reduced by up to 50% ( 19, 20, 21). The size, sweetness and quality of grapes can be improved by reducing the number of bunches on each stem, and even the number of grapes per bunch. The ideal amount of bunches per plant depends on the age of the vine and the training system you use – see our guide to pruning and training grapes. Dr. Yair Margalit, Winery Technology & Operations A Handbook for Small Wineries pgs 41-46 The Wine Appreciation Guild (1996) ISBN 0-932664-66-0If planting more than one grapevine, space them 1.2m (4ft) apart. And if you have room for a mini-vineyard, ideally on a south-facing slope, space rows 1.5–1.8m (5–6ft) apart, running north to south.
