The “right moment” for struggles does not depend directly on their participants, it is not subject to the decision or the choice of any committee, invisible or not. In reality, it is always the object of a conflict. And this is particularly true today, when struggles are less and less dependent on parties and trade unions, and are increasingly seeking to endow themselves with other forms, not more “radical” ones to be sure, but in any case less recuperable. An example is the struggle against the CPE 2 After the insurrection, Trump continued to repeat the election lie for months – and adapted it to minimize what had happened at the Capitol. In an October statement, he claimed that the “real insurrection” was the 2020 election and January 6 was simply a “day of protesting.” (He also made similar claims later in the year.)
Identity is a cognitive reality anchored in individuals, placed at the service of particular social needs. Etcetera, etcetera. But perhaps I’m just past it, as the text proclaims there “remains scarcely any doubt that youth will be the first to savagely confront power.” (17) Still, my age does allow me to remember that “I AM WHAT I AM” is not “marketing’s latest offering to the world,” the “final stage” in its development (29) but a hit-single from the early 80s and, half a century before, Popeye’s catchphrase. To proclaim this as “a military campaign, a war cry directed against everything that exists between being” (32) seems to be clutching at straws, seeking meaning in the meaningless. Not the best way to start a book on the current crisis we face. The journal came to wider attention following the Tarnac Nine arrests of 2008, a police operation which detained nine people on suspicion of having conspired on recent sabotage of French electrical train lines. The arrested were accused of having written The Coming Insurrection, a political tract credited to The Invisible Committee, a distinct anonymous group named in the journal. Mark Ibrahim, who was an off-duty special agent for the Drug Enforcement Administration at the time of the riot, has been charged with crimes including carrying a firearm on Capitol grounds. Ibrahim, who has said he was later fired by the DEA (the DEA would confirm to CNN only that he no longer works there), was photographed that day displaying what appeared to be a handgun. He has pleaded not guilty. Mr Morisot said: “The police tried to link La Fabrique with the presumed authors of this work and militant actions. They mobilised anti-terror forces and were relentless but they never succeeded in finding a link.” Rest assured though: “The impasse of the present, everywhere in evidence, is everywhere denied.” (28) That someone may not be convinced of the evidence does not seem to be entertained. It will be understood in particular why identity is so closely bound up with the problematic of the Ego: it is because identity involves the Ego. The Coming Insurrection offers identity. Its impact is felt to the extent that it proposes a plan for living for the wayward Ego. What it offers is not so much a political project as an existential alternative. The spokesman said: “At around 7.30pm on Monday, 17 April, a 28-year-old man was stopped by port officers as he arrived at St Pancras station, using powers under Schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act 2000. This is why it is useless to argue about the practical difficulties or the inopportune nature of a project in which identity plays a leading role: practical problems cannot be debated with an identity that needs to manifest itself. The possible and the impossible do not exist for an identity, and this constitutes its power, since it is this power that seeks its own reinforcement by way of the individuals who bear it. It does not adapt to the world with respect to objective realities.
