About this deal

All of our products are delivered in our signature Anya Hindmarch eco-packaging and a signature will be required upon receipt of all deliveries. Reading about her thoughts on work and parenthood were particularly helpful and honest as although some authors touch on it and say "be kind to yourself" and will be honest in their experience few give their insight into what worked for them.

In these pages, Anya shares what she has learned during her busy and eclectic life as a mother, stepmother, entrepreneur and businesswoman, what she still worries about, and what advice she has received along the way. She illuminates how creativity and communication are incredibly important in every business, what kind of person makes a good entrepreneur and the concept – triangle of pain. If In Doubt, Wash Your Hair" is her best piece of advice, and the title of her very first non-fiction. In this book, she shares her life experiences from the challenges of managing business, family and her own personal happiness at the same time. She was appointed Governor of the University of the Arts in 2010 and a Prime Minister’s Business Ambassador in 2011, holds both an MBE and a CBE and is a Trustee of the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.Life will always have ebbs and flows and being honest about these and using over communication to ensure everyone is aware of what is happening resonated with me, as often it's through communication (or lack thereof/breakdown in communication) that the problems arise. There is little psychological underpinning for the tips in this book, and aside from a bit of NLP, she doesn’t align her advice to any particular theory.

When I requested a copy of this book from Bloomsbury India, I was under the impression that this is a self-help book. It felt like her book was written for me, she covers all topics from running a business to having a family, and how she balances it all (with help! Anya Hindmarch, fashion designer, businesswoman and mother of five, founded her company as a teenager in 1987.This guide to life consists of the best advice she's received over the years (for context, she's in her early 50s and started her business as a teenager! Then the tap turned off, making Occasionwear and being so tied to events you can image our target market was pulled from under our feet. Read this if you want to be an entrepreneur or you’re a rich white woman who felt Covid was a positive experience and whose greatest challenge is struggling with guilt about au pairs. Entrepreneurs are more doers than reading through tons of small print (hat's what you hire lawyers etc for).

Something I would like to take forward for work/projects etc is approach each morning as if it's your first day. In addition, she has set a wonderful model for building a warm, inclusive but professional business culture. And also that I constantly worry how I don't mess up at parenting because I not only realise how important a role of a parent is + how the kind of relationship you build with them growing up is going to determine the kind of relationship they have with you when you are old. She says that there no perfect or exact method of parenting and advises parents to look for an approach that works for them and their children. She’s frank that being in business is sometimes tough and the only way round it is to get through it.Russell Foster, Professor of Circadian Neuroscience at Oxford University said that "when people are very sleep-deprived they can only lay down negative memories in their long-term memory.
