Das einzige, was mich etwas stört, ist die Ausrichtung auf Studenten. Da lernt man halt einige Situationen, denen man als Berufstätiger nicht ausgesetzt ist (ich kann 学院 "xueyuan" nicht mehr hören, das ist wohl das meistgebrauchte Wort in diesem Lehrbuch). Some topics in the textbooks are not related to the language of daily life in modern society, such as the knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine. Textbooks can certainly help by providing a structured curriculum that allows you to progress in a linear manner, but it is also important to diversify your learning plan by looking for other ways to study Chinese, either online or in person .Fourthly, it is a great choice if you are interested in Chinese culture. By all means, understanding Chinese culture will be easier and add an interesting experience when learning with a native Chinese teacher. These textbooks are essential during the journey! The short answer is no! Textbooks can be a great tool to improve your Chinese, but they are no substitute for having real conversations with native speakers or listening to authentic Chinese language content such as Chinese songs or TV shows. The whole sequence seems off in a few places. In the workbook for instance, you need to listen to the MP3s and write the Chinese characters. Some exercises later you actually learn how to write these characters. In lesson 1 you already get bombarded with vocabulary that doesn't get explained and some if it has pinyin that you haven't even learned yet.

Published by Cheng & Tsui, this series consists of four different volumes, covering you up to the equivalent of HSK 4. All texts come with pinyin, and all texts come with both simplified and traditional characters. The HSK series is a great place to start as they are based on the (only) official standardized proficiency tests for Mandarin Chinese in China. Level 2 books add an additional 150 unique characters to the Level 1 300 core character set. Each book is approximately 15,000 characters in length and offers a manageable increase in grammar and vocabulary used over the Level 1 books. Many learners who are able to read Level 2 readers with adequate speed and comprehension find they perform well on the HSK 4 and the AP Chinese Exam.Versions in English (Simplified Chinese or Traditional Chinese), Spanish, German, French, and Russian are available. Other versions are in the process of publication. The HSK series textbooks come with an accompanying CD which includes recordings of all the vocabulary lists, dialogues, and texts. Be aware that they are only printed in simplified Chinese.

New Practical Chinese Reader vol.1 - Textbook (Traditional

Based on the highly acclaimed and time-tested Practical Chinese Reader (PCR), the New Practical Chinese Reader has been entirely revised and updated. It combines the grammatical strengths of the old Practical Chinese Reader with contemporary material and more emphasis on the learner’s ability to use Chinese in everyday conversation. The New Practical Chinese Reader consists of 70 lessons in six volumes, covering beginning to intermediate levels, for three years of instruction. This series for learning Chinese is not without some minor issues, but certainly will recommend this over Integrated Chinese as it a lot cheaper, comes with the audio. (Yes, I know both... part of language teaching). The Cheng & Tsui series come with accompanying workbooks, which provide a great way to reinforce all the content covered in the textbook. Their latest edition is also available as a web app version of the textbooks for those wishing to study the materials online. Breakthrough is Mandarin Companion’s entry level, designed specifically for emerging readers to master 150 unique characters. Each book is approximately 5,000 characters in length and uses simple vocabulary and grammar.Cheng & Tsui is the leading publisher of Asian language learning textbooks & multimedia educational materials. Since its founding in 1979, Cheng & Tsui has been dedicated to “Bringing Asia to the World.” It takes a whole 5 lessons to go through the all the pinyin. It took my class (and teacher) 8 months to go through all the pinyin. The book succeeds by putting business Chinese instruction in a context relevant to most people engaging in business with China in the 21st century. Readers learn contemporary vocabulary that is actually in use in China today. Mandarin Companion organizes its graded content into three levels: Breakthrough, Level 1, and Level 2.
