About this deal

As I’ve mentioned already, the Otty Deluxe Pure pillow is extremely comfortable. It’s noticeably softer compared to some of the other memory foam pillows I’ve tested (especially the Eve pillow and the Nectar adjustable pillow), so if you’re after a pillow that offers plush comfort, it hits the nail on the head. Plus, it never became too warm, as you might expect with memory foam.

A common issue is that, since memory foam works by reacting to your body heat, the heat it retains can cause it to become uncomfortably warm. Many of us prefer a cool pillow over a warm one (temperature-regulating cooling pillows exist for this very reason), so it’s worth taking this into account when buying a memory foam pillow. Of course, most brands are well aware of this fact and have implemented their own techniques (such as Dormeo’s Octaspring technology) to ensure you don’t overheat in the night. It’s easy to assume this is irrelevant as you’ll have a pillowcase covering it. But it’s worth noting that natural cover fabrics such as cotton have much more breathability than polyester and other man-made fibres, which can make for a far more comfortable night’s sleep if you’re prone to getting hot at night. How we test pillows To make things even better the OTTY pillow cover is also machine washable at up to 40° Celsius. Making any mishaps an easy clean. That way a pillowcase is not mandatory but we and OTTY do recommend you use one, it's just more practical. Despite offering sufficient comfort, those looking for the highest levels of support might find the Otty adjustable pillow a little too squishy and, as such, might instead prefer Nectar’s pillow. Ultimately, this comes down to personal preference. OTTY is taking the mattress market and turning it on its head in the UK. It’s a lesser-known brand but is surprisingly affordable, and is shaking up the somewhat stale market. Up against it for my comparison here is the UK’s leading mattress brand – Emma. It’s an extremely well-received mattress and the market leader. Two tough contenders, then.Aside from comfort, a good memory foam pillow can contribute to a better night’s sleep in a number of ways. Only if you’re looking specifically for a firm pillow would I say that the Otty Deluxe Pure (for all the comfort it offers) might not be a good choice. In this instance, you’re better off opting for something such as the Eve memory foam pillow. The core of the pillow is made from bamboo and charcoal-infused memory foam (dubbed “CharcoCell foam” by Panda), perforated to promote airflow and wrapped in a quilted bamboo rayon cover. It’s softer than Panda’s standard bamboo pillow, instead looking and feeling more like the Otty pillow featured below. The cover is also silky soft and cool to the touch – so much so, that it’s almost a shame to put a pillowcase over the top of it. Lovely knit pattern, side mesh for additional airflow, brilliant durability and longevity, scratch, tear and shrink-resistance of the fabric – it's just lovely.

The only significant caveat is that to keep the pillow feeling its best, you’ll need to plump it up daily – something that’s not necessary with the foam pillows in this list. It comes with a built-in protector and a hypoallergenic bamboo cover for softness and breathability, which can also be washed at 40°C. Bamboo is often lauded for its eco-friendly qualities (being one of the world’s fastest-growing plants), and while true to an extent, it’s a claim that’s often prone to exaggeration. That said, Panda is a brand that prides itself on its stance on sustainability, and has introduced an initiative to ensure all of its memory foam products are eventually disposed of responsibly. The pillow’s two polyester microfibre layers are encased in a soft padded pillowcase. With both layers inserted, the pillow has a good amount of loft, which is a good thing for side sleepers who need to support their head and shoulder (though we also found the pillow to be comfortable and supportive with just the one insert). While most of the pillows on our roundup have a machine washable cover, you might also be pleased to hear that this pillow – inserts and all – can be popped in the washing machine at a temperature up to 60°C. Note that nearly all the big “mattress in a box” brands like Simba, Eve, Ergoflex etc are non-flippable. The mattress is also reasonably priced and great value for money compared to other hybrid designs that have similarly luxurious finishes. The mattress comes well equipped with everything you need to get it out of the box and set up on your bed easily, doesn’t leave much of an odour after opening and well ventilating the room, and it has just enough cushioning on its firm support design to leave you feeling comfortable during the night. Where relevant, we also take into account other aspects including trial periods, washable covers and extra features – such as adjustable and ergonomic designs – all of which can play a part in our recommendations. We asked a panel of testers to trial 27 pillows. They judged each one on its comfort, support, breathability and overall design, before deciding if they would buy it themselves.

In reality, this new AirTech foam (also used in the Original Hybrid OTTY mattress) is an open-cell foam that's not as dense as the regular one and is, therefore, more breathable. However, in the real world, there's only so much you can do to make foam genuinely breathable. The OTTY deluxe pillow uses the same technologies from their highly sought after mattresses. From the cover, foam layers and special properties of the design, but we’ll get to all that shortly.Key features – Filling: Goose down and feathers; Cover: 100% cotton cover (machine washable) Sizes: Standard size and king size Again to confirm, both the Otty and the Emma that I am reviewing here below, are both hybrids. At a glance: OTTY vs Emma Hybrids The mattress has an ‘Airflow system’ which sees small perforations throughout that allow air to circulate freely throughout the mattress, removing excess heat. Testing this mattress in winter in a room that was 18 degrees, I didn’t notice feeling either too warm or too cool.

If you haven't tried sleeping on memory foam before, be sure to select a pillow that comes with a trial offer. That means yu can simply return or exchange it by the end of the trial period if it’s not for you. How we test memory foam pillows It's a standard-sized pillow that will fit any regular pillowcase. You can even completely replace the machine washable covers if you don't want to use them. It's your call. For instance, if you sleep on your side, you may want something with a bit more loft. And if you’re someone who is prone to overheating at night, it’s important to be aware that some pillows – particularly memory foam ones – may feel warmer than others. Different sleepers will get on better with different pillows, and it’s important to bear that in mind when testing. All jokes aside, this one truthfully strikes gold in terms of support as far as mid-range foam pillows go. There isn't much we'd do differently even if we were to design a pillow for optimal support. Is OTTY Deluxe pillow eco-friendly or sustainable?

Our pick of the best memory foam pillows to suit all budgets and sleep styles

Prone to getting hot and sweaty at night? Some memory foam pillows come with cooling claims. These either have breathable covers or feature unique fillings designed to regulate your temperature, such as gel. You won't need more than a glance and a single hand stroke to be amazed by this pillow cover. We know we didn't. This is not one of the coolest foam pillows we've tested so far. Granted, memory foam tends to sleep hot, but considering OTTY claims this one does a good job at dissipating heat – we have to hold it against them. The OTTY Hybrid is made up of four and a half different layers. How is it possible to have “half” a layer, you ask? Well, OTTY have added “side bolster support”. Strictly speaking it has four layers, but this innovation I have not seen on a mattress before, so wanted to give it an extra point. I really believe it’s a game-changer. Emma Hybrid comes in five sizes, which are single, small double, double, king and super king. There are also several EU sizes available if you want them – but sadly no toddler size mattress for kids.
