About this deal

Notably, the Cheetah Pro is equipped to guide you along your path, import routes, and even save complete offline maps. The process, whether done through the Zepp app or akin to Google Maps, is straightforward. By selecting a section of the map and sending it to the watch, you can conveniently upload the data via Wi-Fi. This feature adds a layer of convenience to outdoor adventures and exploration. Battery life So what about GPS, elevation, and HR accuracy? Well, that depends on the sport. In Amazfit’s press bits they touted superior GPS accuracy in city environments, as well as more mundane ones – even showing a screenshot where unnamed competitors had failed. But in my testing, that didn’t really hold up. If I look at easier runs first, such as this one last week, it wasn’t nearly as precise (when in ‘Precision mode’) as Garmin’s SatIQ setting (which is an automatic GPS mode). It wasn’t bad, but it just wasn’t crispy sharp. Here’s an example of that in a relatively open area, with the Cheetah Pro meandering a bit: It was a similar story during a 5K race where average and maximum heart rate readings were well off the readings of a chest strap. Things did get better for steady-paced runs, so you can get some good data here and there. And then when it came to openwater swimming, it wasn’t even close. The Amazfit struggled very heavily here, adding hundreds of meters of distance, and the look of a drunk swimmer (the red line): So while the feature list is impressive, and on paper the hardware totally outperforms at this pricepoint, there are a few lingering issues that still make the Cheetah Pro a little more “beta” than a finished product that you might see from the brands in the last paragraph. Starting at the top, the multi-band GPS is somehow pretty inconsistent, when compared with other multi-band GPS smartwatches. On-land distance consistency wasn’t too bad, except in deep canyons, but in the open water we found variances of 10-20% both relative to the Cheetah Pro (same route, multiple laps, below) and in the absolute when compared to traditionally excellent open-water smartwatches like the Garmin Enduro 2/Fenix 7-series, for instance. While these variances might not seem like a lot, if you’re doing 500-meter intervals in the open water, for instance, with your laps set to go off every 500, you could be doing a 400, you could be doing a 600 from lap to lap. That’s quite a bit. Same buoyed open-water course, two laps, one watch on each wrist. Cheetah Pro (L) and Garmin Enduro 2 (R).

There’s also a run prediction feature and these features collectively felt more useful. Predictions felt nicely in line with other predictions on a Garmin watch that has a much longer history of data to fuel those predictions. In terms of training features, you can create workouts that can be synced to the watch and then there are more advanced features like Zepp Coach and the AI-powered Zepp Coach Chat. Both models come with vibrant AMOLED displays, but the Amazfit Cheetah Pro has a slightly larger 1.45″ screen compared to the 1.39″ display of the Amazfit Cheetah (Round). Health Features Heart rate accuracy actually seems pretty much OK, an improvement from the Amazfit T-Rex Ultra, which has been not-so-hot. Here’s last night’s Frankfurt run: It does include additional modes like a battery saver mode that gives you up to 24 days and a basic watch mode that gives you 45 days.

When you reach 3,000+ meters, the watch will prompt you to take the blood-oxygen saturation test when you ascend over 400 meters within 24 hours; when you reach 4,000+ meters, it will prompt you to take the test when you ascend over 400 meters within 6 hours. Adding to that, the day before, while recording a simple 2-hour ride on flat ground chasing my wife around her Ironman race, it produced a stunning 23,651ft (7,209m) elevation gain, for no obvious reason. Ultimately, there’s something very likable about the Cheetah Pro. It’s good to see Amazfit hasn’t entirely tried to copy what the competition is doing and the result is a watch that looks good, feels comfortable to wear for long periods and doesn’t feel like you’re getting short-changed overall in the design department. Battery life Now, not everything is executed perfectly (or even well), but there are literally so many sports and everyday “lifestyle” features on this watch—with limited documentation and iffy on-watch navigation—it’s actually difficult to find or use them all. Read on for what actually works and what doesn’t. Section divider Amazfit Cheetah Pro Review: The Good And then here’s an interval set from the previous run. Ignore that line that drops out half-way, that’s when I forgot to replace the battery on the chest strap, and it died halfway (and defaulted to the optical HR sensor for that watch, which wasn’t on my skin). But as you can see, pretty happy with the Amazfit results here for what were hard 400m intervals:Then came Coros who started to innovate beyond what Garmin had brought to market and put all its new sports features inside very well-made shells. Coros did and do still make competent watches but the plaform that supports it also needs work. The watch itself has two buttons — one a digital crown — and comes with a nylon band that's a little narrow when sliding my fist through it. Most runners have strong opinions about crowns and nylon straps, so that could influence your opinion. Switching topics entirely, you’ve got training load. You’ll see this post-workout, as well as within the app. And to Amazfit’s credit here, the training load numbers (per workout) almost exactly match what I get from my Garmin watches. Like, within a few units (e.g., 211 vs 208). This is somewhat notable, because even with my T-Rex Ultra testing, when the optical HR sensor would produce wonky results, it’d still manage to give me near identical training load and recovery values.
