About this deal

She lives in the Pacific Northwest with her family and two dogs, and is always looking for something new to read. In short: This place is terrifying and would have been equally so without the addition of a slightly demonic supernatural element. I consider myself a bit of a coward, and I wanted to push myself outside of my comfort zone with this book. Mack felt pretty realistic in her personality and her closed-offness, and I enjoyed how we slowly unpacked her trauma as well as how she perceives her role in some of the outcomes. Hide exhibits a broad and unique cast of characters, each trying their best to survive the horrifying circumstances they unknowingly introduced themselves to.

We were then introduced to several supporting characters, some were very forgettable (which I think was intentional from the main character's point of view), some were fleshed out a little more and were more central to the storyline but they still fell a little flat in my opinion.A high-stakes hide-and-seek competition turns deadly in this dark supernatural thriller from New York Times bestselling author Kiersten White, perfect for fans of Stephen King and SQUID GAME. Now the stage for a strange and sinister competition with menacing undertones the place is inspired by the myth of the minotaur. There is nothing creepier than an abandoned amusement park, especially when Kiersten White is writing about it. As it is, there’s an age old underlying story of greed to this one that takes a look at wealth and privilege.

It took awhile to really get to know the characters and the story line being so broken up didn't make sense to me.I read the original version of Hide last year when it released, and while I enjoyed it, I remember thinking it had a lot of facets that didn't translate well to a written novel and would have worked better in a visual medium, like a film or mini-series—or, lo and behold, a graphic novel! It is rare to read such a broken character as a protagonist, it is hard to understand how she can even function, but she is perfect for this book and this competition. I also enjoyed that there were several plot lines running on top of each other but that all came together in the end. The prose is simplistic, and though the characters are out of their teens, most of them are emotionally stunted from trauma and seem younger (one has her first kiss ever during the competition).
