About this deal

The exaggerated and exorbitant way in which the series handles religious beliefs and differences detracts from its seriousness and turns it into a strange caricature. The Christians against the pagans… and really, one wonders, who the hell are they targeting this series? Pagans, Christians, they’re all killing whether they use crosses or summon Thor. To begin with, the Norse are not a community united by a demonym. Those from Norway are Norwegian, those from Sweden are Swedish, those from Denmark are Danish. A unanimous nomenclature never united them, much less the word Viking which, to honor reality, no Nordic ever appreciated. Not even in the sagas. However, if all of this is achievable in one season remains to be seen. Harald joins the Varangian Guard

In an interview with Collider, Hirst discussed Kattegat’s growth and the ways in which the port will connect both shows: I mean, it was very difficult to get information, not even in the sagas, about what happened in the early Viking Age, but with these heavyweights like Leif (and his notorious father, Erik The Red), Harald, Olaf and many others, there is certainly good material to have carried out an investigation and take into account something very important: We are not talking about Game of Thrones or The Lord of the Rings: fiction content based on fictional novels with the sole purpose of entertaining via fiction. No, we are dealing here with a whole different animal: this is about the culture and history of a group of countries (Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland) and the adventures of their national heroes. On March 9, 2022, the series was officially renewed for a second and third season. [8] On November 21, 2022, it was announced that the second season would premiere on January 12, 2023. [9] The third and final season is set to premiere in 2024. [10] [11] Casting [ edit ] Valhalla (pronounced “val-HALL-uh”; Old Norse Valhöll, “the hall of the fallen” [1]) is the hall where the god Odin houses the dead whom he deems worthy of dwelling with him. Reflecting on the year, the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle – a compendium of historical documents that underpins our understanding of medieval England – notes: "This year came dreadful fore-warnings… terrifying the people most woefully: these were immense sheets of light rushing through the air, and whirlwinds, and fiery dragons flying across the firmament."Andreeva, Nellie (January 4, 2019). And this is when the idiocy of wokism and “diversity” turn Vikings: Valhalla into a simple, empty and unserious product, like any other violent show that resorts to the formulas that our culture currently considers “necessary” . The Viking leaders discuss their impending assault on London by using the bridge to their advantage and drawing out King Edmund. Meanwhile, Edmund discusses his plans for the defence of London with Streona, who will outflank the Vikings and trap them on the bridge. Whilst impressed by the king's strategy, Streona states that the Mercians will suffer heavy losses, but Edmund promises him that Mercia will have all the glory if they're victorious. As the Viking army arrives outside London, Canute taunts Edmund into charging into battle alongside his soldiers, against the advice of Emma and Godwin. Vikings and Saxons fight until Canute leads the Saxons into an ambush on the far side of the bridge. Meanwhile, Leif, Harald and several others successfully weaken the drawbridge, attach ropes to its supports, and use Olaf's longboats to pull it down. Emma notices the Viking's plan and commands Saxon archers to fire at the saboteurs, killing the Greenlanders Skarde and Njal. Godwin informs Edmund of the bridge's impending collapse, but Edmund fails to cross in time and is trapped, forcing him to surrender. Streona arrives to witness the Saxon army's defeat and decides to abandon Edmund. Thao, Phillipe (February 16, 2023). "Climb Aboard — 'Vikings: Valhalla' Season 3 Will Set Sail in 2024". Netflix . Vikings: Valhalla' Cast Members Revealed for Netflix Spinoff Full of Familiar Vikings". Collider. January 26, 2021. Yet the longevity of the Vikings would have been underpinned by the "almost industrial" work of women in creating sails, clothing, rope and other vital materials. While this may sound prosaic, it was integral to the Vikings' success, and there is also the suggestion that women were more directly involved in seafaring, exploration, and warfare during the period. For example, Dr Eleanor Barraclough's Beyond the Northlands traces the Vikings' journey from the edges of the Holy Land to the Americas through the old Sagas. In doing this, she highlights a wide range of female protagonists, including Gudrid Thorbjarnardóttir – known as víðförla ("well-travelled") – a woman with "light chestnut coloured hair" and "huge eyes" who is credited with being the first European to give birth in North America. Gudrid would later take a pilgrimage to Rome following Iceland's conversion to Christianity, and in Barraclough's estimation, she is the "real hero of the Vinland Sagas". The show also features a sprawling cast of characters and shifting alliances, with one of the more prominent being the Viking King Canute (Bradley Freegard), an astute strategist who sat on both the English and Danish thrones in the 11th century. Valhalla was run by Odin, a god favoured by aristocratic warriors. Norse sagas reveal that while many people worshipped other gods such as Thor to ensure the fertility of their land, warriors and rulers looked to Odin. They may have even sacrificed people to him for success in war. So men from this elite section of Norse society would have expected to be chosen to join Odin's warriors after death. Be honourableBradley Freegard ( Keeping Faith) as King Canute: The King of Denmark is a wise, savvy and ruthless Viking leader. His ambitions will mold the course of history in the 11th century and make him a defining figure of the Viking age. Yet the real tension comes when the English king conducts a purge of Vikings who have settled in his country, unleashing a bloody quest for revenge that brings together an assortment of quarrelsome personalities with disparate motives, including the gifted explorer Leif Eriksson (Sam Corlett) and his shield-maiden sister Freydis Eriksdotter (Frida Gustavsson), who is just as deadly with a sword and committed to her own separate crusade for justice. Vikings: Valhalla starts off great, and right away we see Leif and Harald becoming BFFs. That’s so cool! For one thing, it was a display of wealth beyond their reach, this only happened to the few, and they would see all the valuables going in, then the animals being killed and put alongside.

Executive produced by veteran screenwriter Jeb Stuart working with original producer Michael Hirst among others, the show possesses particularly epic qualities, including a battle for London Bridge that’s as intricate and muscular as any staged during the earlier series, which is saying something. The musical score for the first season was composed by Trevor Morris. Amalie Bruun of Myrkur provided the kulning vocals for the opening credits. [22] The series also made heavy use of music from the album The Word as Power by Lustmord, which was also featured in Season 6 of Vikings. [ citation needed] Video game [ edit ] Whether he finds a way to steal the emperor’s girl, we do have some idea of what the would-be King of Norway will probably do next—according to the sagas, at this point during his exile, Harald joined the elite Varangian Guard, a group of mighty warriors from Northern Europe who fought battles across many frontiers of the Byzantine Empire. It’s basically the means by which Harald becomes wealthy and thereby funds not only his return to Norway but his campaign to claim its throne. Itching for more details on the upcoming series? Here’s everything we know about Vikings: Valhalla. After watching Vikings, the original series created by Michael Hirst and History Channel’s first scripted series, I certainly had a lot of mixed feelings. But I understood how insanely difficult it was to create a show based not only in legends and barely like four or five historical facts, and at the same time not to mess up with Scandinavian culture, pride and legacy. Of course, he’s much more a thriller writer and that shows,” Hirst continued. “So it will look different, but it’s still good, really good, from what I’ve seen of it so far.” So the series begins with a scenario that is as unlikely as it is ridiculous and unnecessary. These two men belong to different times and the history of each has nothing to do with the other. In this sense, everything starts very badly. We, the Vikings! Now, let’s dig into this new series created by Jeb Stuart, the guy who wrote that immortal and lovely Christmas classic called Die Hard. Valhalla or heaven? Who cares, let’s kill’em all!
