About this deal

Overall, Amazing Grace Adams was a fine read, with an urge to skim most of the book. Connecting with the characters is key to enjoying this book, but I didn't connect with anyone. The novel is rich with themes of love, hope, joy and grief. What are some examples of these themes in the book? Are there any moments that encompass all four? What lessons did you ultimately take away from Grace’s story

However, the story is reminiscent of “Where’d You Go, Bernadette?” (Maria Semple) so at least that comparison is accurate. AMAZING GRACE ADAMS is a book unlike anything I've read before. I wasn't truly hooked on this one until the second half, and then I just couldn't walk away. To be honest, I didn't like Grace much in the first half. But I think th And then...we find out about a major thing that happened, and my heart just broke into a billion pieces and 100% understood why Grace, Ben, and Lottie acted and kept acting the way they did. I understand because I have lived it and everything is so realistically portrayed I had tears running down my face. The sides of the car are closing in on her and she can smell burned plastic. How are they not moving yet? Sitting here like this it’s reminding her of something—a book, a TV show, a screenplay … she can’t remember. She can barely remember her own name these days. Slumping in the seat, she tries to bring to mind the things she hasn’t been able to recall recently. But, of course, she can’t. It would almost be funny if it wasn’t so terrifying. Like a part of her brain dropped out when she was looking the other way. Unfortunately, Grace Adams herself is whiny, self-indulgent, and just not likable enough to carry the book.

Pre-order:

Grace Adams is a genius. Really. She's an award winning Polyglot who's fluent in five languages. With all the great things she's achieved in her forty-five-year-old life, all she thinks she is now is perimenopausal. She feels like it defines her.

Amazing Grace Adams was an enjoyable immersion reading experience through a DRC and an ALC. Either format will deliver a pleasant connection, however my preference is the audiobook with the excellent narration of Claire Skinner, whose voicing of Grace is exceptional. This is a book who may be enjoyed by readers of women’s fiction, particularly those who are perimenopause or menopausal who may relate to some of Grace’s emotions. Amazing Grace Adams," a debut novel by British author Fran Littlewood, is the story of one woman's no good, very bad day. I don’t think I am the target audience for this book. I gave it a go anyway and there were definitely parts I liked. Yes Grace, you are actually pretty amazing, you’re fierce, funny and currently faltering but you’re certainly unforgettable. I am going to channel my inner Grace with some of the “twits“ (keeping it clean) she and women generally can encounter daily. All the characterisation is exceptionally well done especially teen Lotte whose rebellious turmoil is palpable. My thanks to Penguin Michael Joseph UK and NetGalley for the DRC of “Amazing Grace Adams”. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book. It can be a real Renaissance time. This midlife time has so many challenges in some ways, set against a culture that prizes beauty and youth. But there are real positives. There can be a return to the authentic self. The pre-adolescent self,” she says. “I know women who are starting new ventures, doing new things.”
