About this deal

Unfortunately this happened for a lot of well respected British brands, such as Wharfedale and Quad, just to mention a few which have their current range mass-produced Far East. Everything is tested by our dedicated team of in-house reviewers in our custom-built test rooms in London, Reading and Bath. Looking around at various internet forums it seems advances have been made in making smaller speakers rather than improving sound quality to any significant level. Bass frequencies are robust, solid and straight-edged, and manfully resist blooming even when parked too close to a rear wall.

However, the good news for the OP is that MS20i Pearl Editions would be an excellent and very cost effective upgrade and well worth waiting for a really good pair to come along. I used these speakers with a Marantz PM6010 OSE KI amp, Videologic Digital tuner, QED silver anniversary cable and Atacama SE24 stands. I fondly remember the Pageants and I had a smaller bookshelf pair back in the 90’s which were great, ms10’s I think. A Swedish public limited company (publikt bankaktiebolag) registered with the Swedish Companies Registration Office with organisation number: 556737-0431.Modern speakers, from personal experience, are a little more accurate in tonal qualities are, generally, not always, dig up slightly more detail, but can lack a certain initmacy of sound, compared to the older versions. The makers recommend use with amplifiers rated at 10 to 80 watts, and I would say that systems having output ratings towards the bottom end of this range would nevertheless give ample sound volume in a domestic situation. MS20i are ready to serve faithfully and loyally to music lovers and especially to whose, who appreciate live, not glorified sound.

Got a small setup at the minute in my front room, with a Yamaha RX-V765 receiver and Mordaunt Short Alumni 5. Hi there, I'm regretfully selling this pair of Mordaunt-Short Speakers due to lack of space at my new home.Founded in Fulham in 1967, Mordaunt Short fast became a solidly middle class loudspeaker brand selling to people looking for strong performance in a conservatively styled package. With the speakers fairly widely spaced and pointing straight ahead, I found that this degree of off-axis listening just removed the emphasis of extreme treble which has been my only criticism of this well-made loudspeaker. Measurements confirmed the manufacturer's ratings and revealed close matching of the speaker pair, both in terms of overall sensitivity (on pink noise) and frequency response (on third/ octave pink noise). The Aviano and Mezzo ranges were products of that set-up and were very competitive in performance, so I can only surmise that a decision was made not to give too much attention to what is an over-crowded part of the hi-fi market. They respond VERY well to thoughtful upgrades in electronics and ancillaries and if you can find them in light wood veneer their looks still draw appreciative comments that belie their age.
