About this deal

But what triggers the desire to share these moments with the entire world? Why is there such an interest in it as well? I'm lead to realise that Billie Eilish is essentially part of an industry that is essentially creating art and entertainment, but is ultimately fuelled by money and people who are keen to make money. It's disillusioning and this book lead me to think of her as more of a product than much else. There's also the strangely lingering omnipresence of her parents in a lot of her output, who also co-narrated the audio book accompanying this publication (I haven't listened to it, so I can't comment on it) and who have also played an important role in her documentary (which sole existence also lead me to ask the same questions as I do now).

Billie Eilish is a 21st-century global pop phenomenon. Uncompromising and unapologetic, between her record-breaking, award-winning music and artistry, it’s no surprise that she has become one of the biggest and most loved artists of her generation. Now in her first book — a stunning visual narrative journey through her life — Billie is ready to share more with her devoted audience for the first time, including hundreds of never-before-seen photos. This gorgeous book will capture the essence of Billie inside and out, offering readers personal glimpses into her childhood, her life on tour, and more. It will be a must-have for every fan. It will be a must-have for every fan.Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy her music. I've been listening to Billie Eilish's music for three or four years now and to me, she's become increasingly difficult to understand as a phenomenon. I've watched her go from against-the-grain indie-pop gal to global superstar. The young teenager is now a young adult, and while a lot has changed for her as an artist (and person, probably, too), she is still being perceived as the one "to do things differently". She's not like the rest, they say. Now Eilish is publishing an actual memoir of sorts, simply titled “ Billie Eilish,” a book of photographs with sporadic, pithy captions. If any teenager could pull off telling the story of her life thus far, surely it is Eilish, whose youth is at once a huge asset to her art (she speaks the language of now intuitively) and immaterial to it. Eilish’s smoky voice and sharp lyrics evoke someone decades older; she is not a kid artist, just an artist who happens to be a kid. (Let’s not forget that when Kate Bush released her debut single “Wuthering Heights” and Prince released his debut album, both future legends were also 19.) Billie Eilish is a 21st century global pop-phenomenon. Uncompromising and unapologetic, between her record-breaking, award-winning music and artistry, it's no surprise that she has become one of the biggest and most loved artists of her generation. I think it's so important to take photos throughout your life because otherwise you might forget. I don't want to forget, I want to keep my memories close and vivid. I don't know if it's just because I'm sentimental, or maybe I just love to look at old pictures." Music Billie Eilish isn’t stressing over the Grammys. She’s busy worrying about the end of the world

The book starts with a picture of Billie's mom while pregnant and lead us through early childhood and puberty over to her recent Academy Awards and Grammy's appearances, ending right before quarantine started. A few photos are annotated and they all vary in intimacy and personality. I've got no doubt that Billie means what she's saying when she writes the following in the introduction: So much of what’s presented is anodyne, which seems to be the point. Eilish, the book conveys, experienced an average, white, homeschooled California upbringing in a household that emphasized creativity. She took dance class, sang in chorus and studied aerial arts. As a toddler she played an electronic piano her father bought from a discount store. She loved her dogs and held a snake (a precursor to the anaconda that co-stars in “Your Power”?). She had friends and wore princess dresses and tiaras. We get only a sliver of the eccentricity that would become her calling card : At an early talent show, she sang the Beatles’ “Happiness Is a Warm Gun.” She was 6 years old. Legendary recording artist Billie Eilish shares an intimate inside look at her life and career—both on and off the stage—in this stunning, photo-filled book. At the ripe age of 19, pop phenomenon Billie Eilish seems to have entered her memoir era. Her autobiographical songs are increasingly vivid, and earlier this year, Apple+ released “Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry,” a documentary capturing the recording of her debut album and meteoric rise to cultural juggernaut. Social media’s grip on culture has made it socially acceptable for everyone, celebrity or not, to be perpetually telling their life story (or some spit-shined version of it) as it unfolds. Eilish’s platform is bigger, and her methods are more formal, but in many ways her public persona embodies a typical teen experience, perfected and idealized. Six-time nominee Billie Eilish could have the night of her life at the Grammy Awards. But today, she has her mind on more pressing concerns.
