About this deal

Bonnie Montgomery (as her case-cracking alter-ego Montgomery Bonbon) has been invited to Adderstone Manor by Fergus Crok. In fact, on every occasion there’s been a need for Bonnie to don moustache and mac and begin investigating with sidekick ‘Banks’ in able support. But they might have heard of the great Montgomery Bonbon, the well-dressed gentleman detective who (apart from the hat and moustache) looks suspiciously like a 10-year-old girl.

And lo and behold, behind a locked door are three dodgy suspects, a dead man, and an empty space where a prized exhibit ought to be.Together they'll interview some dodgy witnesses, scour the scene for clues and - above all - hope no one notices that Bonnie and Montgomery are never in the same room, at the same time. Engaging and 'safe' first detective story (if yours hasn't read Horowitz's Diamond Brothers series yet - that should be next). In this story, Bonnie’s visit to the local museum of curiosities is somewhat interrupted by he small matter of a murder, and the theft of the most famous exhibit: the Widdlington Eagle.

Montgomery Bonbon and Grampa Banks make an excellent team and the age and experience of Banks definitely keeps Bonbon grounded and thinking clearly. What the rest of the town don’t realise is that Bonbon and his assistant, Banks, are actually ten-year-old Bonnie Montgomery and her quick-witted grandfather. We are first introduced to Bonnie Montgomery when she visits the local museum with her Grampa Banks. And can I just say, the author narrating it was absolutely brilliant and he did a beyond stellar job. But can she solve this case alone, or will she need double the detectives to solve double the murder? Bonnie is an extremely clever young girl and one that can pull off being disguised as a short, but fully grown man. Crammed full of brilliant humour, wonderfully illustrated […] a wonderful shared read as adults will enjoy both the storyline and the delicious humour too.

However, it seems the real trouble begins when Bonnie dons her detective disguise and Grampa becomes her sidekick, to investigate the Death at the Lighthouse. It was such a pleasure to meet you both, and I really appreciated how smoothly and professionally you ran everything. Whether or not one grasps all the littlest “insider jokes” will neither disturb nor interrupt the picking-up tension in the story leading up to the solving of the murder mystery. A brilliantly funny young murder mystery from a rising stand-up comedian, podcaster and filmmaker – and exciting new talent in children's fiction. When a museum employee is found murdered and the valuable Widdlington Eagle stolen, Bonbon is on the case and interviews a cast of eccentric staff and suspects. You guys were so fab and Dawn was such a lovely presence in the schools - I will absolutely be in touch next time I'm in your neck of the woods. A few clues are left behind and Bonbon is on the trail of suspects, thief and the aptly named Blowpipe Killer. Upon visiting the Hornville Museum with its eclectic displays, Bonnie and Grampa end up discovering a murder!
