Seems Dometic sent 2 to my caravan dealer on 1st June, after receiving a claim on 31 May. We complained re 2 broken shelves on 10th January! A +1 for De-Ox powder and Gell from me for my old motorbike and other rusty stuff, however I also use Citric Acid ( the base ingredient of De-Ox ) and cheaper, it just takes a bit longer, it's none toxic and can be tipped down a drain. There are several rust removers (as opposed to rust converters) that I have used over the years restoring classic cars that are very good. One is a product made by Bilt Hamber called "De-Ox". You mix it with water and leave the parts to soak and it removes all traces of corrosion leaving them sand-blast clean. Hammerite do a similar product but I found that it needed soaking for longer. Once cleaned the rusted areas will be susceptible to future corrosion and will need protecting so a few coats of clear lacquer will re-protect everything. IF they arrive I will never travel with anything on the shelves. Its not worth risking them breaking again, great design Dometic! I also use Sodium Carbonate and electrolysis for large or heavily rusted bits, I find it is better for such as nuts and bolts rusted together or steel components rusted together but it would be a bit over the top with shelves.Always remember to empty out the refrigerator between trips one when storing your vehicle – food items left in the fridge for long periods could contaminate the unit. After disconnecting and defrosting, clean the fridge using a soft cloth and warm (not hot), weak solution of bicarbonate of soda. Finally, wipe over with a cloth and plain water and finish with a dry cloth. If something has left a strong odour in the fridge which washing alone cannot shift, try making a paste out of the bicarbonate of soda and water, and smear this in the refrigerator and leave overnight.
