About this deal

Press the Tomato Halo firmly into the soil and ensure that all the spikes are fully buried. Step 4. The number of plants you want to grow should come into consideration when selecting a planter. Remember, it is good to space out your tomato plants so that they can thrive instead of fighting for nutrients. If you want individual planters for each of your plants, there is no problem; just ensure there is enough room for the roots to thrive.

AWARD WINNING CHERRY TOMATO: It's no surprise that this wonder of a tomato plant has the RHS Award of Garden Merit - it is simply wonderful. 'Sweet Million' is well named. Why? Well, maybe not literally millions but hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of delicious, sweet cherry tomatoes can be expected from each plant, over a long harvest period. They're happy in beds or in containers on the patio, in fact any sunny convenient spot. Truly amazing Our new and unique Plant Halos offer an 'all in one' watering and crop support solution for popular crops such as tomatoes, peppers and beans. Sold in sets of 3, Plant Halos can be used on grow bags, pots (with a diameter of 26cm and above), raised beds, as well on traditional vegetable plots. The central inner pot creates the planting area which is particularly useful when used with grow bags as it allows a deeper planting zone to develop healthier plants. A 3.1 Litre outer 'moat' features six 2.8cm watering spikes which penetrate below the surface, delivering water direct to the plant's roots. This ensures that water and liquid feed are delivered at a reduced rate that the plant is better able to absorb, preventing wastage which is common with conventional watering. It typically takes between 3 and 6 hours for the water reservoir to drain fully, depending on the weather and soil conditions. Plant Halos also feature a unique cane support system. 3 anchor slots surround the inner pot and provide the means for a rigid, wind resistant structure using bamboo cane (not included). A cane grip cap (see photo below) is also included and allows for up to 4 canes to be joined at the peak of the resulting structure. The cane grip cap is simply separated from the main moulding by the user. Plant Halos are manufactured from recycled, UV stabilised plastic and are guaranteed for 5 years. We offer two colour alternatives - classic green or tomato red. You can also move the planter easily thanks to the reinforced handles which can be handy. In terms of size, I think its more than large enough to plant 3 tomatoes plants up and thanks to teh included frame you don’t need to worry about canes either. Pros A cane grip cap (see photo below) is also included and allows for up to 4 canes to be joined at the peak of the resulting structure. The cane grip cap is simply separated from the main moulding by the user. There are holes where you can install supporting canes which many of the other models are considered didn’t have, this does give your plant more stability as they grow rather than just trying to place the canes into the soil so it’s a nice feature to have. Pros If you are tired of buying tomatoes or are just getting into growing fruit and veg and want to have a try at growing your own, you are in for an exciting journey. Expect well over TWO KILOGRAMS or an eye watering 70-80 tomatoes from each plant. Wow!

Tomatoes like the sun, so you should place them in an area where they can absorb six to eight hours of sunlight. A south-facing garden is ideal. If using a Tomato Ladder, insert its legs through the three support channels and push it down until the bottom rung is resting on the halo. If using a Tomato Cage, place it around the halo and push the legs into the soil until the bottom rung rests on the ground. Step 6. Not every planter you come across is ideal for planting tomatoes, any big pot will do but the best setups are ones with watering systems which overcomes one of the biggest problems, your planters wilting before you had a chance to water them again. Nothing is more satisfying than growing beautiful, fresh tomatoes in your garden, or from a container on a balcony or windowsill. So we've asked the experts, the team at British Garden Centres, Craig Wilson, a gardening expert from Gardeners Dream, and Matt Jordan, gardening expert at The Greenhouse People, for an expert guide on how to grow tomatoes. Plus, we share some recommendations from Burpee Europe on the best tomato varieties to try and where you can buy them. Choose the right tomato varietyBefore planting, water the soil and work in a fertiliser (or use your compost comprising old fruits, vegetables, and coffee grounds to help fertilise your plants at no extra cost). The plants access the water through the capillary spikes that pierce the grow bag, so there is no intricate system to set up.A little tip is to make a little slit in the grow bat for the spikes rather than trying to push the spikes through teh grow bag, it just makes it a little easier.

LONG HARVEST PERIOD: With its unusually long flowering and fruiting period, you'll enjoy abundant harvests all Summer long, trusses laden with beautiful tomatoes. This is the tomato plant that just keeps on giving THE MOST POPULAR TOMATO VARIETY: 'Gardener's Delight' is the most widely grown tomato variety, by gardeners all over the UK. And for good reason. This is one AMAZING tomato. Delicious fruit, abundant yields, incredibly reliable and easy, easy to grow. The tomatoes you'll get are simply bursting with flavour, and among the very best for vitamins and health-enhancing minerals. An absolute gem of a tomato Before you can begin to prep for growing tomatoes, establish which tomato variety you want to grow. This model is easy to store because of its size as its 95cm long, a width of 39cm, and a short height of only 10cm. It is a lightweight model; therefore, portability is not an issue. Pros The MyGardenGreen self-watering garden Halo Pots are easy to use if you’re looking for a way to keep plants well-watered. These halo pots have a sizeable reservoir to keep your plants hydrated for a few hours in warmer weather which is when you usually start have issues with wilting tomatoes.Once germinated, the tomato seedlings can be transplanted into ¾ inch pots. 'Once seedlings are large enough to handle, around five inches tall, transfer them into individual containers or a seedbed,' says Craig. But, only plant outside in your container, hanging basket or grow bag once the last frost has passed, the team at British Garden Centres warn. If night temperatures drop below freezing, keep them inside. Wait for late May or maybe even early June before introducing your plants to outside conditions. Tomatoes in particular benefit from regular fertilising since they need a lot of nutrition to produce healthy fruits. However, too much nitrogen can result in a plant with lots of foliage but few fruits,' Matt warns. 'Use a fertiliser specifically formulated for tomatoes and feed once a fortnight once the first flowers begin to show, increasing water and feed as the tomato fruit increase in size.' Growing tomatoes can be a complicated process depending on the species of tomatoes you select. To make it easier to grow tomatoes in planters, these tips might be of help; To make like easier you can use an attachment to attach the hose directly which helps, especially if you can leave it set up like this. You can also take it a step further and attach a water time and automatic it if your away longer than 3 days. You just need to work out how long to set the timer for and how long for as to not flood the plants.
