About this deal

The chance to have one last adventure with her crew, do right by an old friend, and win a fortune that will secure her family’s future forever? I remember, as a kid, being rapt by some of the great classic adventures, by Robert Louis Stevenson, Jules Verne, and others.

He is also the eternal disappointment of his mother, who just can’t understand why he hasn’t cured cancer yet. This all accurately represents the ethnic and religious and economic diversity of the 12th century Indian Ocean world. Amina makes it home to her daughter and some time passes before Marjana alerts Amina to strangers walking up the path.

In an interview with Kalyani Saxena, Chakraborty explains that she wrote the book during the COVID-19 pandemic, mostly between the hours of 4 A. I really liked Raksh, he is mysterious, charming, and handsome and I loved his interactions with Amina. We used to joke that of the three of us, I could kill you up close, Tinbu could kill you from another ship and Dalilia could kill you from another city three days later. Our hearts may be spoken for by those with sweet eyes, little smiles, and so very many needs, but that does not mean that which makes us us is gone. I wrote it as the sort of book I’ve been craving in the past few years: a madcap adventure tale that offers excitement and escapism, but also a good dose of heart.

I am loving this book so far, Amina seems like such a girl boss <3 I think she was right to take the job, I'm looking forward to finding out more about Dunya's father. Just goes to show the extent to which there was more external action over internal growth) All of the change happening was external.

Writing for the New York Times, author Tochi Onyebuchi noted that "there's a reason why 'one last job' remains such a popular and powerful subgenre".

It touches upon plenty of serious topics: class and societal oppression, the struggle to balance parenthood and your dreams, and perhaps most obviously, the “crafting” of history and one’s legacy. Dunya admits that she was not kidnapped; she went with Falco willingly because she has been questioning her gender identity and is fleeing an arranged marriage. I don't know if it's because I don't really relate to Amina at all or if the "humor" really is just irksome.

Amina is granted permission to leave the island in exchange for hunting down five magical artifacts, including the Moon of Saba. The figure of the scoundrel who wonders why God made them so good at sinning can be a contrived creation, a trope designed to inject moral complication into a story, but Amina’s religiosity feels intimate and lived-in. He also praised the "adroit commentary on class conflict, piety, warfare and gender politics, particularly how these things are perpetuated through myth and storytelling". Tinbu- So sweet and loyal and the sibling type rivalry he has with Dalila had me cracking up the entire book. Overall, The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi is another excellent addition from an excellent author, and I hope some movie studio somewhere is smart enough to option the rights and actually make a film out of it, because I would love to see the spectacles within brought to life via more than just my imagination.

After all, we build our homes upon the ruins of lost cities and sail our ships over the drowned palaces of forgotten kings. All we see of Amina being a mother is that she misses her daughter, would do anything to keep her safe, and is empathetic to other girls who remind her of her daughter. Although I had a few issues with this book, I am assured this won't be the last time I read a book by Chakraborty.I had gambled, gotten drunk and stretched the limits of adultery-often doing all three in a single evening- then failed to wake in time for fajr to pray for forgiveness. Enter Salima, a wealthy Adeni woman who offers Amina money beyond her wildest dreams to track down her missing granddaughter, Dunya.
