About this deal

Although there was a small decrease in stability due to the lightweight design, this hiking footwear felt comfortable and light on the trail, reducing foot tiredness considerably. The padded collar is comfortable, although, on slippery surfaces and more technical terrain, we felt that this great boot is not as supportive as a high-cut model.

This product is a waterproof boot that uses a Gore-Tex membrane to keep your feet dry in snowy or rainy weather. Another difference between the two boots is their weight. The X Ultra 3 GTX is slightly lighter than the X Ultra 2 Mid GTX, making it easier to wear for long periods. The first thing you'll notice when you slip these on is just how instantly comfortable they are; they hug your feet, feeling secure yet slipper-like. Unlike boots of old, the X Ultra family are designed to be comfortable straight from the box, providing a comfortable experience from day one. X Ultra footwear is based upon Salomon's trail running shoes but featuring a little more support and stiffness for days out in the hills. The 3rd edition of Salomon’s X Ultra line of hiking shoes has kept a lot of features from previous versions, with a couple of noticeable differences. For a more lightweight and breathable version, the Salomon X Ultra 3 is another excellent option, just missing the waterproofing. Who the hiking shoe is for Those with wider feet might find the toe box restrictive (although Salomon sells the X Ultra 3 Mid in wide sizes). These Gore-Tex boots also feature a protective toe cap and mudguard, which add an extra layer of protection against water and help you shed mud before it gets the uppers wet.

However, if you have flat feet or high arches, you may need to add an additional insole for more support. How It Evolved? When trying out the boots, I found that they were snug but not tight, a feeling that persisted throughout the hike. The lacing system is also easy to use, with metal eyelets that allow you to adjust the fit to your liking. Added to our best hiking boots for beginners guide, these hiking shoes from Salomon are a good choice for non-technical terrain with rougher portions they can handle well. Their Sensifit system with the comfortable Ortholite insole ensures a proper fit and prevents blisters during day hikes.Shaving weight often comes at the sacrifice of on-trail comfort, but that’s not the case with the Salomon X Ultra 3 Mid GTX. The Grand Canyon’s Escalante Route was an ideal testing ground, starting with an unrelenting descent of over 4,500 feet. By the end of our first 9-mile day, I had only experienced light soreness, and I wasn’t immediately wanting to remove the boots when we finally got to camp, which is very high praise for a new pair of hiking footwear. In addition, there was very little break-in required. The X Ultra 3 felt far less stiff than Salomon’s own Quest 4 out of the box, although I did wear it on a few day hikes before heading into the Canyon. And the rest of the boot’s testing has gone just as smoothly: I haven’t dealt with any hotspots or notable discomfort throughout a year of use. Delivered Monday to Saturday 8am-8pm, excluding bank holidays. Once despatched you will receive updates from the courier. Both boot models are waterproof, but the Targhee III Mid Waterproof uses the patented Keen.Dry system. While the GTX is more popular, we noticed no important differences regarding the water resistance level. Drawing on our trail-running expertise, this shoe is lighter and more agile, so you stay nimble on uneven terrain.
