About this deal

As an overview of this approach—its past, present, and future—"And Other Neighborly Names" makes a valuable contribution both to Texas folklore and to the discipline as a whole. The series follows Alice, a determined engineer and bit of loner, who gets introduced to the kinky, poly, queer lifestyle of her two male neighbors after moving into a new building.

I can’t think of another author who does a better job of developing real, powerful, and emotionally complex characters who love, fear and grow in her stories. But the first version of that chapter, which I’d written much earlier, was from the perspective of Alice’s sister. Unfortunately, things move beyond the notes, making them, especially, Kat very uncomfortable, if not rather terrified. Minutes from the city, affluent without pretension, low crime with a friendly vibe-it's everything Kat never had, and that she's determined to provide for her infant daughter. The reviews I had read before picking this book up were tentative but ultimately I have to side with more with the lower end of the review scale. We’re on our own little island, jutting out into the Bay, just minutes from Oakland and San Francisco. The Ambiguous Figure of the Neighbor in Jewish, Christian, and Islamic Texts and Receptions offers a fascinating study of the intersections between Jewish, Christian and Islamic text, and will be of interest to anyone working on these traditions. Kat her husband Doug and baby daughter, Sadie, move to the perfect neighborhood on the perfect block with the most wonderfulest perfectest neighbors ever! And it was ultimately that insistence that led to writing Becoming His Master in Henry’s perspective. Pedophilia, open marriage, murder, threats, poisoning, and this all on ONE block in the most desirable neighborhood in the city.I won’t say more yet, because the Neighborly Affection universe is vast and there are so many stories to tell. In Neighborly , Ellie Monago adds a dark twist to the idea that you never know who your neighbors really are, no matter how friendly, and that if things look too good to be true, they probably are. Anyway, Kat and her husband have moved into a house in what seems to be an idyllic estate with their baby daughter. As mentioned before, this really is one of those ‘throwaway thrillers’, I can assure you I will have forgotten the story or the characters within a few months, even though I semi-enjoyed it while reading. A fast-paced read from a new voice in domestic suspense which you should add to your to-read pile immediately.

Focusing on the ways in which traditions arise and are maintained where diverse peoples come together, the editors and other essayists—John Holmes McDowell, Joe Graham, Alicia María González, Beverly J. They all know how to communicate and the writing makes it clear that there is no pressure to perform. I loved the descriptions of all the characters and how they interacted and the undercurrent that was running through the book, what was the secret, well I never saw that coming, no spoilers from me, but I thought this was a cracking good read and I enjoyed reading it.

The chemistry between Heaven/Calvin, Tasha/Stephen and Heaven/Tasha was all really well done, didn't feel forced or over the top. Then someone in the neighborhood poisons their daughter with a bacteriavirus (the author is not sure what her selected organism actually is—a bacterium).

and by frank I mean talk that I would never in a million years utter out of my lips in front of anyone-maybe I'm a secret prude) I continued reading the book but feel it needs a warning to those who will feel gut punched and suckered by not knowing what they are getting into. This ambiguous status makes the neighbor particularly interesting as an entry point into issues of cultural complexity, self-definition and identity. Tom laments the lack of s I would still check out another book by the author though, as I think her writing has good potential!Naturally, the story moved out of her perspective as it expanded, but how did it feel to branch out into writing Jay and Henry’s POVs? The neighbors in this idyllic neighborhood are outwardly welcoming and at the same time deliciously creepy, and the secrets that bind them all will shock and surprise you. I’ve heard talk that you will be writing in the expanded Neighborly Affection universe, so to speak. From a threatening note found outside their door to deep, rather disturbing secrets, Kat instantly becomes extremely worried. All told, their really needed to be a chapter or 2 more on the book to properly finish the loose ends, and an epilogue telling how the characters turned out in the future would have been nice.
