About this deal

Working around inside with a cotton bud, a pipe cleaner or the specialist tool that may have come with your fridge, can sometimes do the trick. You can even create a rota for cleaning different parts of the fridge over the course of a month for interval deep cleaning. They will likely look like a metal grid running up the back of the appliance (similar to the image above). Whirlpool, for example, has a specialist mild detergent fridge and freezer cleaning product that's designed for use inside your appliance and is claimed to be food-safe.

Instead of using harsh detergent sprays, mix up a natural vinegar spray using two parts water and one part white vinegar. It's worth pointing out at this stage, that if you don't plan on using the food before its use-by date, pop it in the freezer. Once the solution has had time to work its magic, use a damp clean cloth to wipe everything down thoroughly. However, if your drain hole has become blocked by food, it's likely that all that condensation will end up at collecting as pools of water at the bottom of the fridge, and often inside your vegetable drawer. In addition to good old washing-up liquid and water, you can use baking soda and vinegar as a means of cleaning and sanitizing your fridge naturally.

This includes working with the grain, drying thoroughly to prevent water spots and finishing with oil. This fast-drying, fresh-smelling fridge cleaner spray is ideal for getting a clean refrigerator; quick, hygienic and thorough.Porridge oats: same technique, leave them for a couple of days then dispose of them in your kitchen trash can.

Once you have removed all the food from the fridge, you need to take out all removable parts such as shelves and drawers. For example, you can keep your entire sandwich-making condiments in a bin and when it’s time to make sandwiches, you can pull it out and have everything handy for all preferences without having to open the refrigerator several times. Then take a soft cloth, wrap it around a blunt knife, dip it in the vinegar solution, and run it gently along the crevices in the seals. Make sure to give them a good clean, and feel free to break out a more powerful detergent to help eliminate bacteria.

Dust on the condenser coils doesn't just look unsightly, it can also prevent your appliance from cooling properly. Start by removing any food debris to ensure all clogs and cleared and then pour a teaspoon of baking soda into the drainage channel followed by 200ml of water.

It’s important to occasionally check and clean the drip tray to prevent mould growth and nasty smells. But before you put the food back in, you’ll need to make sure the fridge has cooled to 5°C or below. With the shelves and drawers out, spray the fridge's interior with a solution of distilled vinegar and water, concentrating on any areas with dried-on gunk. If water is pooling at the bottom of your fridge, there’s likely a blockage in the drain pipe that runs from the back wall of the fridge down to the drip tray outside at the back of the fridge. When you decide it's time for a deep clean, try and time it for when you have as little food in the fridge as possible.
