As with DreamWorks' previous film The Bad Guys (2022), the film's design was inspired by Sony Pictures Animation's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018), to make the film look more like storybook illustrations, from an idea suggested by production designer Nate Wragg. Just over eleven years since Puss in Boots from the Shrek films got his own solo movie, we suddenly get a sequel to it. You probably could get into this easily if you hadn't seen any of the Shrek films. Or the 2011 Puss in Boots movie.
