About this deal

I couldn't really relate to or become invested in any of the characters, although there was one in particular that I loved to hate - Ollie's fiancee, Elise.

The Summer House: The Classic Blockbuster from the Author of

The Summer House was a great way to begin my summer. It follows three siblings reunited at their vacation home to celebrate their father's eightieth birthday. Flossy Merrill's family and the Summer House in Rhode Island have always been her first loves. When her grown children stopped coming to the Summer House, she and her husband decided that it was time to sell the place. All the children had been asked the previous summer if they wanted the Summer House, but they all declined. This summer Flossy managed to get everyone together to celebrate their father's 75th birthday party and have a last family vacation together before they sold the home. The catch was, that they did not want to tell the kids until the week ended so as not to ruin their time together. As each child arrives, they bring with them their families as well as all their problems and baggage. If you know this author's work and have enjoyed it, you will not be disappointed in THE SUMMER HOUSE as you become involved in the lives of the characters and feel the emotions they are experiencing. 5/5 Each of their three children, along with spouses and grandchildren, arrive at the beach house grappling with problems. I loved this family in all their messiness. The family felt real, with real issues, just like in life. Some of the issues are serious while others are due to long-held misunderstandings. How they get worked out over the course of the week made for an interesting read. I liked how not everything was tied up neatly in a bow and the author didn’t go for the totally predictable ending. As the truth unfolds, The Summer House becomes fast-paced and you’ll be anxious to find out how it all turns out. I enjoy mysteries but I’m normally not drawn to books with military themes (as noted, I thought this was a lighter beach read) but it was well done and I’m glad I read it.Flossy also had another reason to get the family together, but she and Richard couldn't bring themselves to tell their children even though they knew they had to sooner than later. This book encompasses everything you think about when you hear the words summer house - a gorgeous setting, a dysfunctional family, and drama, drama, drama. It’s the summer of new beginnings, hope, and resilience. Lily and Rose’s endearing journey of self-discovery will have you grinning from ear to ear. Their story put a smile on my face, and brought joy to my heart. This is the authors best book yet. The mystery involves many kind of personalities and the reader is called to decide who amongst them is behind a vicious crime and what this person has to gain or are the rangers indeed guilty of the atrocities that took place in The Summer House? Themes: Poignant themes in The Summer House include second chances, friendship, taking risks, starting over, and women supporting women.

The Summer House by James Patterson | Goodreads

The case was closed years ago, but was all the evidence at the time really solid enough to convict someone. For Lily, I loved seeing how she was able to open her own shop and come into her own by using the money her Mom had saved for years unbeknownst to her. Lily has regrets, doubts, and sadness regarding her marriage to Worth, but as time goes on, she starts to see where she is, is a good place to be. She’s met Rawlins, (Rose’s nephew) and they definitely have some chemistry between each other. They both have some past issues, and they are willing to tread the edges of their pain to get to know each other. Hazel, Rawlins's daughter is precious. I love scary scenes and wasn’t disappointed. Everything I look for in a book of this genre - this one certainly has it! I got more than I hoped for in twists and turns and the author has added some spectacular red herrings to the mix for good measure. Next is a series of menacing events I must say that I really enjoyed this book. I've always wanted to have a summer house by the ocean. These three siblings and their parents became very real to me in this story. I was drawn in right away with Clem losing her husband. I really wanted her to find happiness. My first book by this author, I liked the steady pace of the book showing me their lives. The two ladies were sweet, ably supported by other characters who equally had gone through life. Friendships and second chance at life was well shown. Now that my local library has restarted lending out book, I am catching up on my 2020 releases by James Patterson and his ever-growing stable of co-authors. I based the novel in Hampshire, where I grew up, and the town is inspired by Alresford. A friend of mine has the most gorgeous Jacobean mansion just outside, in a village called Ropley, and I had been saying for some time that it would be the perfect place to set a novel. Of course I made it my own – I put a hill in and added a folly and set it on a farm, much like my father’s – so it’s a mixture of my own Jacobean home and the one belonging to my friend. That’s the wonderful thing about novels, one can invent absolutely anything! An overwhelming suggestion for this to be added to your to be read list, as this is, as I mentioned at the beginning of this review, one of the best collaborations of 2020 from the James Patterson stable. So just go for it!
