Lisa Jewell’s characters are so real that I finish every book half-expecting to bump into one of them. Modern, complex, intuitive, she just goes from strength to strength.” I Found You is my first book by Lisa Jewell and she is now on my radar and I will be looking at more of her books to read. I Found You is an intriguing, clever and interesting mystery with secrets, lies and plenty of suspense that starts off a little slow and on the lighter side and then turns more darker as we learn more about the intriguing and likeable characters and their stories. It is well paced and well written with two stories told in the present day and are interwoven with a third story from the past. Toby Dobbs’s father gives him a massive Victorian house with numerous bedrooms as a wedding gift. His marriage however ends in a month. At the same time in London, Lily, a young bride from Kiev, is searching for her husband. Only married for a few weeks, Lily believes that only grave danger would have taken her husband Carl away from her. The more she searches for him, the more she realizes that she doesn’t know him as well as she thinks. This year, Kristy - who's matured into a very pretty girl - attracts the eye of 19-year-old Mark Tate, who's visiting an aunt in the area. Around twenty-three years earlier, teenagers Gray and Kirsty Ross crossed paths with a mysterious young man while on holiday in Ridinghouse Bay. When Jem and Ralph fell hard for each other some eleven years ago, they were convinced that their love would last forever—that they would live together happily ever after. So when I'm reading along and constantly finding myself thinking things such as, "Wait! There's no way a parent would do that" or "That decision just doesn't make sense AT ALL," then that means the story is problematic for me.

One midsummer night during a neighborhood party, Pip, who is on the brink of teenagehood, finds her blood-soaked thirteen-year-old sister lying unconscious in a luxuriant rose garden. Lily is the next character that the reader gets to learn about. She is a brash Ukrainian woman who has recently moved to the United Kingdom to live with her husband she has just married. When Lily’s husband doesn’t return home from work one evening, she heads out on a frantic search to find him. Lastly, the reader learns about Gray who is telling his story in 1993. Gray is a teenager who is on a family trip with his parents and sister. The reader learns that Gray’s sister Kirsty ends up dating a young man who is not who he seems. All of these characters have some kind of connection to one another and the reader slowly unravels that connection as the story progresses. The book flips to twenty-one-year-old Lily Monrose who was born in Ukraine and has only been married for three weeks. When her new husband fails to come home from work one night she is left stranded in a new country where she knows no one. Then the police tell her that her husband never existed.
