About this deal

Pushkin Mango Vodka, a flavored variation of the renowned Pushkin Vodka brand, offers a delightful twist to the classic spirit by infusing it with the tropical essence of mango. This flavor infusion brings a burst of sweetness and vibrancy to the vodka, making it a popular choice for those seeking a fruity and refreshing drinking experience.

Desi Daru Mango Vodka secured its third Master medal, in the Microdistillery flight. Chambers said: “Tonnes of fresh mango on nose, fresh pulp with bitterness from skin, soft and sweet on the palate, with a very complex flavour profile, lots of fresh mango – this is great to experience, compared with something more confected. It’s juicy and delicious, with a delicate peppery note underneath.” The tasting then looked to vodkas divided by region, starting with a flight of entries from Europe (excluding Eastern Europe). Seven Gold medals were enjoyed in this round, one of which was awarded to Neft. The Vodka – Rye category brought another Master medallist to the table: Belvedere Organic Infusions Pear & Ginger. The judges agreed that these were not the easiest flavours to get right, but were impressed by the authenticity of the pear and ginger. Dixon said: “This was an interesting flavour combination with attractive aromas of both flavour components.” Schools hold marathon competitions to find the best performers of his poetry. It's not unusual to see a child barely four feet tall take the stage and recite from Pushkin by heart for 20 minutes or more. The Pushkin brand's success story began with Russia's October Revolution. The new rulers drove many Russian families to Berlin. And it was through one of these families that a traditional Tsarist recipe made its way to Germany, eventually becoming one of the country's most successful spirits brands: Puschkin Vodka.

The four Gold medallists were Dutch Barn Vodka, Baxter Vodka, Von Est Wheat Vodka, and Altamura Distilleries Vodka. The latter expression delivered aromas of “orchard fruits” and was found to be “well balanced”. Two vodkas were viewed as deserving of Silver medals for their smooth qualities. A single entry in the potato-based vodka round saw Nine Tines take a Gold, enjoyed for its “sweetness on the nose and palate, and nice balance – would be great sipped neat, or in a Martini”. Pulse Vodka won a Silver in the following flight, Vodka Base – Corn. Meanwhile, Pod Pea Vodka was the worthy recipient of a Master medal in the Vodka Base – Pea round. Chou particularly enjoyed this expression: “Expressive green, grassy, leafy, lactic notes on the nose. Very complex, with sweet caramel on the palate.” A Gold was given to Grainger’s Deluxe Organic Vodka, and a Silver was awarded to Koskenkorva Vodka Organic. The penultimate flight of the day was the biggest by far: Flavoured/ Infused Vodka. This portion of the vodka category has been growing in popularity recently, arguably enhanced by the rise of gin. Four products proved they had outstanding credentials, and were rightly rewarded with Master medals.

Pushkin Vodka boasts a rich heritage rooted in centuries of vodka-making tradition. Named after the renowned Russian poet Alexander Pushkin, the brand aims to embody the same artistry and elegance that characterized his literary works. The Vodka – Corn heat created another Master medallist: Ignite Vodka. Twemlow found “beautiful popcorn aromas and hints of citrus”, resulting in an “amazingly smooth and balanced” vodka overall. Pur Sang Standard secured Gold. Banks and Bloom Ice Vodka impressed Filer, who said: “Soft nose with some creamy vanilla, lemon and grain. A smooth and oily mouthfeel with a saline element, and a balanced profile of peppery grain with sweet citrus, and no disruptive heat.”

Nykur Super Premium Organic Vodka completed the Master streak. Rodriguez-Curtis said: “The palate is fantastic, the alcohol is perfectly integrated, balanced well and the texture rounded. The slightly higher alcohol adds to the texture. It feels grown-up and premium, like a vodka you want to enjoy in a Martini.” Panel three comprised: chair Bernadette Pamplin, freelance drinks writer and founder of the Under the Ginfluence blog; Sara Jane Eichler, founder of the Negroni Club UK; and Alan Uresti, head of agave spirits and drinks development at Annabel’s. The Smooth flight saw Desi Daru Mango Vodka take home another Master, enjoyed for its “lovely juicy mango on the nose” and “warming and smooth texture without excessive heat”.
