About this deal

You need a large quantity of plants to really make a difference but the benefits of plants cannot be denied and so what a great excuse to fill our homes with as many plants as we can and breath easy. What chemicals can be found in our homes?

There are a variety of different species of Schlumbergera, all of which have individual defining characteristics and flowering times. The three most common species sold in the UK are the Thanksgiving cactus, Schlumbergera truncata, Christmas cactus, Schlumbergera bridgesii and the Easter cactus, Schlumbergera gaertneri, formerly Hatiora gaertneri and they all have the same care requirements in our homes. To expedite resolution and control the cost of any dispute, controversy, or claim related to these Terms of Use (each a “Dispute” and collectively, the “Disputes”) brought by either you or us (individually, a “Party” and collectively, the “Parties”), the Parties agree to first attempt to negotiate any Dispute (except those Disputes expressly provided below) informally for at leastthirty (30)days before initiating arbitration. Such informal negotiations commence upon written notice from one Party to the other Party. Orchids detest soggy roots and will not thank you for sitting them in a pot of water so the best way to water is remove them from their pot and dunk or flush with rainwater whether in a sink or bath and let the water drip through. Return to their pot once excess water has dissipated. The Thanksgiving cactus Schlumbergera truncatahas spiky points like crab’s claws on the tips of stems and flowers from early November, a month earlier than Schlumbergera bridgesii, which starts blooming from December with tubular flowers and rounded, smooth stems.

Plantsmith’s Fortifying Feed & Tonic can used on all your houseplants and is a blend of 13 essential plant-boosting nutrients which help your houseplants grow strong, glossy leaves and long lasting flowers. It also contains kelp extract which helps stimulate new cell growth. Formaldehyde can be found in synthetic fabrics, benzene in plastics, tobacco smoke, detergents, paint and glue, and ammonia is found in many cleaning products.Other harmful chemicals such as trichloroethylene found in varnish, paint, varnish and glue and xylene found in leather and rubber products can be absorbed by certain plants too. Why are these chemicals a concern? Refresh your potting mix. Use shredded bark chips or a professional peat-free compost bark mix to support roots, and if you have one, a clear pot so roots can photosynthesise but if you really want to display Phalaenopsis in your favourite opaque pot then just regularly remove your plant from its outer pot and leave it out on a bright windowsill so roots get access to light.Mist your orchid every two to three days with Plantsmith Invigorating Orchid Care Mist. It’s best to feed houseplants regularly during their growing season, a period that generally runs from March to September. During this time, feed every other time you water. Apart from some flowering houseplants, most are dormant over winter, so require fewer nutrients to keep them in good shape. Either stop feeding completely or give them some nourishment with every fourth watering. How to feed Phalaenopsis or moth orchids, are long-flowering elegant houseplants that have soared in popularity, not only gracing the shelves of nurseries but now of most supermarkets too. Feed every couple of weeks when your orchid is actively producing flowers and leaves. Flush water through the growing medium and let it drain then water again using Plantsmith Nurturing Orchid Feed and Tonic. Our professional orchid feed formulation contains 12 essential plant-boosting nutrients – everything your orchid needs to thrive. Like us, plants require a combination of nutrients to thrive and when plants live in pots rather than the open ground they are totally reliant on us to provide them with a balanced diet but essential nutrients such as iron, potassium and magnesium will encourage healthy green leaves and promote flower growth.Orchids are epiphytes and in the wild grow on tropical tree branches, obtaining light filtered down through the canopy but orchids are not parasitic; they use aerial roots to absorb moisture and carbon dioxide so are watered and fed by the humidity surrounding them. A surprisingly large number of harmful air pollutants actually come from everyday manmade products we have in our homes like paint, computers and furniture. Your Contributions do not contain any material that solicits personal information from anyone under the age of 18 or exploits people under the age of 18 in a sexual or violent manner. In 1989 NASA carried out the NASA Clean Air Study which were controlled experiments in sealed environments proving plants such as snake plants, peace lilies and English ivy, have the ability to purify air although there is debate about the amount of pollutants they can remove from our homes. Subsequently research studies followed in 1993, 1996 and 2004 that have confirmed and elaborated on these findings. Silver squill will produce beautiful sprays of blooms in late winter, early spring but if you are struggling to get your plants to flower then this winter make sure your plant has a good rest in a cool location – and that doesn’t mean placing it near some funky wallpaper but make sure the temperature is cool! Reduce watering and stop feeding. Silver squill need a period of dormancy over winter to recharge – don’t we all! Propagation
